The murder-suicide at UCLA went down in a professor's office, and the shooter appears to be a student ... TMZ has learned.

Our law enforcement sources say both male victims were found in an office on the 4th floor of Boelter Hall. Based on the evidence and the bodies ... we're told police believe the student shot the professor and then turned the gun on himself.

We're told there is a note, but it's not your typical suicide note -- it does not mention the professor.

Police are trying to confirm the victim is the same professor in whose office the bodies were found.

No, they don't. They don't walk around and make the decision to do so. Nor do they drive/walk around and contemplate their actions. They also don't supposedly leave notes as to the reasons/justifications for their actions.

The real issue here is that people are going nuts.  There are a lot of reasons for this but nobody wants to talk about them.  It's much easier to blame the inanimate object that the crazy person used.

The gunman who shot and killed a UCLA professor Wednesday has been identified as Mainak Sarkar, a former doctoral student who had accused the victim of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else, according to Los Angeles police.

Sarkar, a resident of Minnesota, appears also to have killed a woman in a small town in that state, officials said. The woman’s name was found on a “kill list” in Sarkar’s residence, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said. A second UCLA professor’s name was on that list as well, along with Klug’s name.

Professor seemed like a nice guy

Klug, who was described by friends as a kind and caring man, bent over backward to help Sarkar finish his dissertation and graduate even though the quality of his work was not stellar, the source added.

"Bill was extremely generous to this student, who was a subpar student,” the source said. “He helped him out and interceded for him academically."

Just read the alert about this today, and how he left a note to check on his cat which lead them to another dead woman and the list which showed another professors name on it too. Bet he's glad he didn't show up to work that day. Brutal.
