But it doesn't record.  Any experience with this?  Any alternatives that are better?

Works well. Of course power is required and Wifi. I have not used anything else similar.

There is no point. I usually look through the peep hole but not always. When it is a stranger the best case scenario they are trying to sell you something you don't want, worst case it's a home invasion.

4 hours is a long time. I might have called the police. I had someone try me door knob when I was home at my old apartment, it was locked so they didn't get in. I just went and got my shotgun next to me while I watched TV in case they tried to enter more forcefully.

Yup I did the same thing just ended up camping on the couch with my handgun for a few hours.
Gf wanted me to call the cops. But I was too tired to deal with the cops. 
Later on that night/morning, was about 2 am, I heard shit in the parking lot, dude was trying to open my neighbor and friend's car with his key. My friend was pushing and cursing him out. My friend can be a scary dude. He is 6'4 and built. Drunk guy was so sure that was his car.
