A student at the Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester was killed in a quadruple shooting near the school Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Three other people were injured, including two other teenagers and a 67-year-old woman, in an outbreak of violence around 1:15 p.m.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh condemned the shooting as a heartbreaking setback in the city’s efforts to prevent youth violence.

“A 17-year-old kid shouldn’t be dead today,” the mayor said during a news conference at the scene. “He should be getting ready for ... a summer job instead of his family burying him over the next couple weeks.”
