Trump, GOP lawmakers open door to restricting gun buys for those on watch list

A congressional push to ban or restrict gun sales for those on terror watch lists gained bipartisan momentum Wednesday, with everyone from key Republican lawmakers to Donald Trump to the National Rifle Association opening the door to discussing the idea.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee indicated interest in the push in a tweet Wednesday morning announcing a meeting with the NRA.

....The NRA, for its part, has walked a fine line on such proposals. On Tuesday, it tweeted that bans for people on watch lists are "ineffective, unconstitutional, or both."

Chris Cox, director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, clarified Wednesday that the NRA "believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period."

He said those on a watch list who try to buy a gun "should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing." If there's evidence of terrorist activity, he said, the sale should be blocked and the suspect arrested. But he added, "At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed."

As if ISIS is going to deliberately use people who have the FBI breathing down their necks.

Mateen didn't buy his weapons, until he dropped off the FBI's radar.

3 weeks ago, he tried to buy bulk ammo & body armor.  The store owner notified the FBI because the dude was just so shady.

IMO, if a person WAS on the FBI watch list, and there is NEW info that he's buying bulk ammo and a vest... maybe it's time to watch his ass, interview him again, put a little eyes on him and see if he's driving around buying rifles, rounds, etc.

doesn't matter...as a matter of principle you should not be able to purchase guns while on a suspected terrorist watch list....you can go back to drinking your orange cell-tech now

the problem is that anyone can be added to the list, and it's a MINIMUM 6-month stay, with another 6 months able to be added.

If some bald, white a-hole blows something up and is on the loose, Obama can just say no fat bald white guys can buy a gun for 12 months without any legal recourse from those tens of million trump supporting republicans.

To which I say.....not one fucking inch. No lists no bullshit...maybe don't let these assholes into the country period. We have enough 3rd world assholes. I don't need more making it easier to trample on my rights. Who is gonna decide who's on that list? Based on what laws....based on what due process? If you want to live like that get the fuck out of my country.

Constitutionally speaking, you are absolutely correct.

Emotionally, reactionary, pandering speaking... you're absolutely wrong.

Now we know Obama is the latter.  Today we realize Trump is the latter also.
