You have to be a gimmick to be this clueless. We all want what we cannot have. And if women see that a man is taken, then they believe that something is "valuable" about him. It's why dudes who go to a bar with a female friend or family member, and they will be hit on by the women---if he has a female companion (especially if she is attractive) then this piques their interest...basically meaning that he is not a creep.
