i have been flirting with going in the networking direction again. any thoughts, tox? good field or dying?
as long as you stick to WAN stuff man its a great field..
the idiots occupy the LAN stuff..getting an MCSE is no biggie now a days..
howeva if you are gonna jump into it..go al the way..go CCIE
you r white so getting a security clerance wont be a problem for ya..(dont take that the wrong way bro)
so... CCNP plus security clerance = around 80k / yr
clerance and CCIE = 130ish / yr
no clerance and CCIE = 100k/yr
go to
www.cisco.com and search the CCNP and CCIE (routing and switching) and feel free to e-mail me with questions..no pm..i'm still not getting em...
i say do it...you already have a good base knowlodge of IP addressing (ip version 4)
you'll need to learn ip v 6 which i'm doing right now but with v 4 knowlodge you'll already be ahead of the curve..
get your CCNA in the bag first...i recommend buying some 2500/2600 routers(cheap..) and 1 3550 switch(costly) and 1 2600 or 1500 (pref the 2600.) switch(cheap) and practicing ...
having said that..IF you wanna stick to LAN stuff..go get your Solaris UNIX cert...and you r $
also a CISSP (security cert) is VERY valuable now a days
