3 Arrested With Gun Cache in Truck at Holland TunnelA trio of gun nuts from Pennsylvania were busted Tuesday morning as they tried to enter the Holland Tunnel armed to the teeth in a souped-up truck and claimed they were on a mission to rescue a kidnapped friend, law enforcement sources said.
Around 9 a.m., cops at the New Jersey entrance of the tunnel stopped a green Dodge pickup truck — covered with messages like “God Guns Guts Made America Free” and “2nd Amendment” — because it had a cracked windshield, according to Port Authority sources.
Police spotted a loaded pistol magazine inside the car — which also advertises for a Pennsylvania gun shop called Higher Ground Tactical — then searched it, finding seven loaded weapons, about 2,000 rounds of ammo and ballistic vests, sources said.
The weapons included an AR-15 assault rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and five semi-automatic handguns, Port Authority Superintendent Michael Fedorko said.
The three Pennsylvania residents inside — identified as Dean Smith, 53, John Cramsey, 50, and Kimberly Arendt, 20 — were all arrested on several charges, including weapons possession, transport of a high-capacity magazine and transport of an assault firearm.
They told officers they were on their way to New York to rescue a female pal who is on drugs and being held against her will, sources said.
Police, who are still trying to verify their story, are grateful that all officers and suspects kept their cool,
with so many weapons within reach.
“This could have gone bad really quickly,” a cop at the scene said.
The suspects’ weapons cache also included a camouflage helmet and night goggles, NBC News reported
