Do You Lift For Strength OR To Look Good?
« on: June 23, 2016, 08:16:04 AM »
I've always wondered why people lift. Lifting weights really puts stress on the body to a certain point. I was plagued by injuries when lifting heavy.

Do you want to be strong to prove something to others or yourself?

Do you want to be strong because you compete in powerlifting?

Do you want to look good for the opposite or same sex?

If you could get a 20 inch arm by curling 30 pounds would you do it?

I began my training life as a bodybuilding enthusiast, eventually stepping onstage several times in a thong. Even then, however, I considered myself a "power bodybuilder". Meaning I didn't desire muscular mass without equal corresponding strength. My heroes were all incredibly strong physique champions.

But one day I realized the actual lifting, and the resulting strength, was what ultimately motivates me. Tanning, oiling, posing ... not at all.

I've always had a passion for big, strong things. Mechanical, physical or otherwise.

So I transitioned into powerlifting. Competed several times.

Now I simply consider myself a strength athlete. Entering meets isn't the goal. I absolutely love lifting and the catharsis it brings.

I'm good at it and have a natural talent. It's never been for anyone else.

I feel a calming effect from intense strength training. A sense of accomplishment. My great strength is what makes me different from the masses.

The gym's my church.

Started lifting to make my ex jealous (I know, lame, but true). Fell in love with the iron shortly after. I now train because its like therapy to me, I love being in the gym because its "my time."
To be honest, though, I do it purely for aesthetic reasons. If I could build 20" arms curling 30lbs once a week I'd take it lol. Unfortunately, genetics are a bitch...
I don't care much for strength, as impressive as it is to be strong, I'm just not built for it. I get injured way too easily lifting stupid heavy.

I train so I can run faster, hit a baseball further, compete in OCRs /GR types and for overall health.

I've found what works best is a combination of powerlifting (Wendler, etc) and military fitness training.

Like most though, got into it for aesthetics and bodybuilding, not knowing anything.

I feel everything is linked to an extent. If you train to get stronger, your muscle mass will increase to deal with the increasing loads. Getting bigger muscles is a result of getting stronger. If you also keep your bodyfat below 12%, you should be able to look reasonably good.
I don't have the genetics to have a great, aesthetic build and I've learnt to accept that. However, I like getting stronger in the gym as it makes me feel mentally better and improves my mood. I'm not even strong in most lifts but the sense of satisfaction I get when I hit a new PB can brighten my entire day.

Strength only! I just recently started watching my food intake again. I might come back down to 275 and compete there.

I want to be as big, lean, explosive and strong as possible.

Endurance is also important. ppls with 20 inch arms curling those 30 pound dumbbells are just pathetic. the muscle that they have is not useful for survival and dominance...

i got my glock with me, just in case they try to get me, but 1-2 punch combo or rare naked choke is far better option in respect to legal aftermath.

Shooting people is risky endevour.

You can do your "pump" sets and inject AAS/hgh and feel badass, but you are no better than the beauty pageant bitches. Deadlifts, squats, C&Js, pull ups, etc are all must imo.

Even better, you can stop training and get some piana like implants and be HUGE.
