looking at an empty plot where his wooden house used to stand before it fell apart while others are planning to sell their real houses and make a handsome profit and move to a nice little house in the sun...

we shall see... 98% of the houses I know are made from wood with various outer facades.

Yeah, we get it, cars have shorter financing terms than houses.

I'll give you that one, that was pretty good. touche

but you can get a 30 year loan on a manufactured home in certain cases... I wouldn't loan on it but the V.A. for some reason will guarantee a loan

In the UK we use bricks and mortar, we are not idiots.
They last hundreds of years, anyone buying a house and staying in it long term makes money eventually.
We bought well at the right time and are now mortgage free sitting in a property worth around £230k
We are in a position to be able to sell up whenever we like and move wherever we like.
Currently we like where we live, if it gets an infiltration of immigrants and undesirables we will move.

No they are not, uk houses are build with 2 leafs with a cavity in between, inner leaf is blockwork these days and outer is facing brick, either you are trolling or a complete fucking idiot to compare construction of a static caravan to a house

Even if what you said about uk construction methods was correct to even suggest barely 1mm thick corrugated shit steel is a better alternative than brickwork for the outer leaf of a timber frame house is sheer stupidity

Brick and rainwater = brick
metal and rainwater = rust.

Not 200 years but that caravan/trailerhome can last his lifetime (50+ years) easy if he maintains it correctly.

Calm down dude. I'm not suggesting corrugated steel is better than brickwork, I'm merely saying the manufactured home isn't the piece of junk you are portraying it to be. 50K for a new manufactured home that will suit his needs for at least 15-20 years isn't such a horrible purchase. It might not be what you and I would do but it's not a plywood shanty with tarps and bailing wire

Pretty much everywhere in the world houses and buildings are built with CMU blocks (masonry construction), because they are inexpensive and easy to work with.

Seems like a rabbit trail. I don't think anyone, certainly not me, is saying his trailer/manufactured home will last 200 years, or as long as a brick home. Just that it isn't the plywood and tarp shanty shack some are trying to make it out to be.

I never said vince’s fine negro accommodation was junk, I’ve acknowledged that caravans are better build now than they used to be.

My "stick built" 1976 house probably won't last 200 years without continued major repairs. Max wood shake or composition roof life = 50 years, red cedar siding = 200 years with maintenance, copper plumbing 50 to 70 years and longer depending on the acidity of the water. Copper Romex wiring = 100 years. A couple of years ago I had dry-rot repaired to the tune of $15,000. Replaced all the carpet with solid 3/4" birch wood flooring with a factory finish. It can be sanded and refinished several times.

Clayton Homes are very durable.  The one in Sylva I was in with Vissy was a Clayton Houdini that was bought in 2001.  It didn't have anymore repairs than a normal home but it was much cheaper to get done and they were mostly minor.   Its still standing today perfectly fine....never had an issue with roof,  electricity....some clogged pipes and a floor repair from one of the cats digging it up but that's pretty much it.

Also, these homes are not made of cardboard...they are stick built homes on a foundation of American Steel I-Beams.    The cost difference is simple....they are built indoors in a controlled enviroment so there is never any delays, you can't customize or design the floor plan, and they are much smaller as is my singlewide and waste is very minimal preserving the .   They use the same insultation, same wood, same plumbing, same wiring, same siding, same roofing, etc because Clayton Homes also builds modular homes and site built homes.   Here's a video of one being made if you need a reminder

As far as my reason for buying it....I simply wanted to reduce my bills as I spend a lot of money having an apartment in addition to having my own private place and something that I own.   I didn't wish to spend 188k on a home that I would never have a need for and would spend forever paying off and I wanted one with very little maintenance.   This is my first home I've ever bought so I'm very pleased at my decision to get one as well as being able to get out of Greenville and enjoy the peaceful countryside.
