Sniffing certain kinds of paint fumes can affect one's mental state, sometimes permanently. However, Marty is a house painter. It is unlikely the type of paint he uses causes this condition. House paint, both interior and exterior are almost exclusively latex paints. The conclusion that Marty is brain damaged because he's exposed to paint fumes on a regular basis, is highly unlikely.

Your observations must be severely restricted. Your conclusion is therefore inaccurate.

Time Travel!

At present .... the only Hollywood motion picture that I can recall that was directly involved with the theory of relativity was the original Planet of the Apes.

There must be many others ... but I can't recall any at present.

Great scene, great movie...

You're right my conclusion was inaccurate. Even latex, low-VOC paints can contain toxic ingredients. Good ventilation is key to not inhaling these toxins. Spray painting is more dangerous than applying paint with a roller or a brush for obvious reasons.

How did painting get into this conversation?

Paint in the rocket ship dries faster.

I don't think that Marty needs anyone to defend him so I won't.

He's simply been asking questions and posting thoughts that verge on the very edge of relativity and quantum mechanics without the educational background to understand it the way much wiser individuals have proven things actually are ..... or thought to be within the minds of much wiser men.

In my estimation he's really interested in things that require a lot more schooling than most of us were privileged to receive.

My interest in all this intellectual stuff was a result of spending time with a female genius who challenged me to smarten up by reading what she called "a simple book" entitled Dancing Wu Li Masters.

I ain't as snarrt as her by a lon-gshot so I had to re-read it numerous times to just understand the simple parts, but some of the important shit gradually sunk in after I had the opportunity to discuss QM with a physics professor who taught the subject.

I told him that I felt 'stupid' because I could not understand it as well as I had initially hoped.

He  simply replied ..... "You're not stupid at all! Even the best of us feel/felt  that way when we first get/got involved with anything to do with QM! And if anyone of us tell you that he understands it .... he's the stupid one for saying so!"

I wish everyone who thinks like Marty would read this book!

at light speed for 4 years but your "twin"  on earth ages 8 years when u come back home and youve aged just four years

the horsesshit they make u beleive lol

lemme simplify

you walk on a treadmill in a rocket . the rocket is going 2x's the speed of light and you walk 18 hours straight on the treadmill at 1mph you cum back to earth at 18 hours , you age 18 hours and walked 18 miles

your "twin" on earth walked 18 hours and aged 18 hours

but no they say

hellary clitton and barrack ofbums scientists want you to magically beleive your twin on earth aged much more than 18 hours when u came home lol

you did leave for just 18 hours , you dont just magically speed up everyones else fucking time by going fast in a rocket

you dont make the sun go faster around the earth just because youre in a fucking rocket loool

Marty, the speed of light is really fast, 671 million miles per hour, and it's impossible for anything to go faster that the speed of light.

You're starting to understand why Einstein was such a genius.  What he discovered is in no way intuitive. In fact, it doesn't make sense the first time you hear it.  Space and time will warp to ensure the speed of light remains constant.

The speed of light is constant always.

Time and space aren't constant, that's why one twin ages less than the other twin.

Mass warps space time as shown here:

PALUMI ...., ThANKS. I never thought of the speed of light in
miles per hour". In fact I've never even seen it expressed that way.

So I had to calculate it to see how accurate you were  and if my calculations are correct, I think you slowed down the speed of light by 384 miles per hour..

I used Vnce's calculator though!

Regardless of my calculations .... I mention this simply because I was interested in writing a movie script about what would happen if the speed of light was slowed down, but got little help form friends and family and GetBiggers ... so I dropped it.

I should  mention that just recently the speed of light was increased by 282 miles per second. The old figure was 186,00 miles per second, but now all agree with the possible exception of Marty that it is actually 186,282 miles per second.

How they figured out that new speed limit is a puzzle to me.

Sorry for being long winded here , but I actually like this 'stuff'.

cite einstien and"studies" to "prove" me wrong

i give examples that are reasonable and not a paradox

time dilation is a paradox . you cant explain it with reason and u must accept thier studies as fact until you yourself can prove them wrong by building a rocket

The 186,000 miles per second is just approximated. The more precise figure is 299,792,458 meters per second. That's probably rounded too but better, cause what are the chances it evens out nicely on a man-made unit?  :)

POLY/10, Thanks.

Theory of Relativity ... The one thing of interest that I can recall (and of which may be of interest to Marty) is the speed of a pingpong ball
as observed by an individual playing pingpong on a train and the speed of that same ball as observed by an individual standing  motionless outside of that same train as it passes.

Something about "speed being RELATIVE to the observer".

INTERSTELLER .... For some reason, I could NOT understand that movie at all, but I do intend to give it another try.

the position of the ping pong ball will be delayed proportionally to the distance of the observer

reality does not change

also reality does not change wether your in a fast space ship or in a house . you can watch a movie in either and its going to take you the same amount of time to watch it

tesla wrote about cosmic rays from draco (sp) that were at least 50 times faster than the speed of light. no one likes bringing up teslas technical goodies it requires effort and time its easier to just go with the flow u know

Experiments are used in science to prove theories.  The experiment that proved Einstien's general theory of relativity right is explained in this Wired article.

Wired:
1919: During a total solar eclipse, Sir Arthur Eddington performs the first experimental test of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

The findings made Einstein a celebrity overnight
, and precipitated the eventual triumph of general relativity over classical Newtonian physics.

The bending of light around massive objects is now known as gravitational lensing, and has become an important tool in astrophysics. Physicists now use gravitational lensing to try to understand dark matter and the expansion of the universe.

Usually scientists don't want to be engineers.  They're not interested in designing and building practical things.  The want to further mans understanding of the universe and matter.  Both are necessary.  What engineers do is take the science and apply it to solving practical problems.

Tesla may not have been a scientist, but he had a deep understanding of the science behind everything he invented.  There's a reason all the early classes engineers take are science and math.  Engineering is just the application of science and math to real world problems.

PALUMBO, thanks again! I wanted too say the exact same thing, but you said it better .... So I'll keep my mouth shut.

Some of you guys who are speaking on this subject are a hell of a lot smarter than I am simply because I can't understand a damn thing you're saying.

Where did you learn this stuff?

Marty Champions, now that you've mastered Einsteins theory of relativity and electricity, why don't you move on to quantum mechanics.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here but I do agree with Palumbo regarding his recommendation to Marty to develop some interest in the basics of Quantum Mechanics.

Just a simple 'understanding' of the wave-particle duality of light  and the double-slit experiment would most likely be enough to satisfy his curiosity about this sort of stuff.

It would also show him the present limits of what seems impossible ro understand even by the wisest minds on this planet.

And it may even offer him lots of new stuff to debate about.

And maybe even offer new thoughts on QM that the wisest of  men have yet to think about.

And the above suggestion just might be advisable for any GetBigger who may find this stuff to be of slightest interest.

u guys think im retarted

there is no such thing as warping time

u can bend light of  course with gravity but that doesnt change time.

how could time be slowed down. rather den say IT IS EINSTIEN BLAH ATOMIC CCLOCK BLAH BLAH einstien blah

Haven't you idiots seen the documentary with Mathew Mcconeghey and batmans housekeeper?

He aged a bunch less than his 7.5/10 redhead daughter. So it's true.

Not "retarded", Marty!

It's just that you fail to understand this stuff and arrive at  the wrong conclusions

And believe me .... You are not the only one. For most people it's simply incomprehensible.

I have spent years reading about this shit , and I have discovered that I can't even understand more than about  5% of what I've read.

But I will admit that ... I have read a lot!
