Tyson is a smart man, he simply lacks a classical education, and that makes him appear foolish sometimes. If you ever get a chance to see it, Toback's Tyson documentary offers a far more charming and introspective look at him -

People dismiss Mike because he's said and done some crazy shit over the years but if you really pay attention he is a great philosopher.

He's had a lot of life experience and with that he has acquired a bit of wisdom.

He is a bit eccentric from what I've seen of him, but yeah, he isn't an idiot. He is passionate about certain things, he just seems tired of attention, which must suck when you live a life as a post athlete, and you need it to pay the bills.

After seeing his 1 man show telling his life story. I instantly became a Tyson fan.
One of his best lines was "everyone's got a plan...till they get punched in the mouth."

Too bad Cus D'amato wasn't in his life a lot longer. I'm sure a lot of Mike's wisdom came from his teachings.

Cus D'amato was as old school as is get, he came from the same mentality as my old boxing trainer(RIP).

Old school trainers would not only train you but educate you, 'cus old style boxing involved a lot of standup wrestling.
That type of boxing would nullify a lot of grapplers in the old times, that's why boxers in the ol' times were heavily respected by all. That meant that you'd be caring a lot of responsibility.

I wouldn't get punched in the face I'd take him to the ground and arm bar him within seconds
