It is only an option if it makes sense for the person in question - some of my "buddies" who've always had a hairstyle are deathly afraid to lose their scalp, which is quite understandbale from their point of view.
Just shaving it off only works for a few, same as having long hair.
Imagine the Rourke of today with a bald head...

Ya gotta wonder if Rourke hated being a Hollywood pretty boy and took up boxing later in life to cultivate his ego's need to be tough and rugged looking. Everything he's done from his nose work to bodybuilding to his tattoos (except for the collagen lips) seems to be designed to rid himself of his "prettiness". How odd.
