What good does it do if he talks all this shit and goes out in a couple weeks and gets his ass kicked?
That guy's stock has dropped significantly in the past few months.
Doesn't matter if he gets his ass kicked in UFC202, he'll just go down to his normal division and continue the reign there.
Will justify it by saying that he doesn't back down from any challenge at any weight etc
There will always be fans that praise him and will keep watching him for that, and there will be people that will watch just to see him get knocked out after doing an outlandish statement that irritated them.
It's all about getting butts in seats when it comes to the UFC. The fighter who can market himself the best always makes better money than a good fighter that's not able to market himself a la Jose Aldo and others.
If you're a good fighter and can talk
(ie gain attention, even on an exquisite forum such as Getbig) will always be in the top of salary.
Conor for example, isn¨t just reaching out to MMA-fans or fight-fans but becoming more and more mainstream, and you can find discussions about him even on forums and in places where you'd think would be the last place anyone would discuss fighting.
He is always trying to stay relevant, be it gaining fans or haters = it generates money.
