While Danny Padilla was great (should have been 2nd), Tom Platz was the best he'd ever been and would ever be again in 1981. His upper body became quite massive in its own right. I believe he showed up at 218 pounds at just under 5'7" and imo he should have won it that year, with Danny following behind (Danny shockingly placed 5th that year).

I was there. I walked down from the balcony to the front when they called the top 5. I thought they were going to riot when Platz was called for 3rd. I knew then that Franco won.

Great back detail on Platz. He did what he could with his genetics, but PADILLA seemed more balanced and was equally if not more ripped this show.

After the bicep tear Platz was finished. Shame because he never had a chance to peak properly again and compete for the title

Either Platz or Padilla would have been a worthy winner. Callender should have been 3rd. Danny really got phucked.

I like how each of these guys has their own look and some really good standout body parts, but alot of structural flaws and incomplete physiques. Shows arnold really was way ahead of his time and bodybuilding did kind of stand still when he left. It was just a case of finding the next best thing.

Franco at best was 4th. What a shame that this show was fixed from the start. If Franco's legs were at their best he still was smooth in some areas.
