Is it me or are the Olympics stupid and a waste of time?

It's like watching a bunch of highschool sporting events with adults participating.  I turn it on and it's volley ball, badminton, ping pong, swimming. diving, rowing etc...  WTF!  Boring ass shit.  it's the only sporting event I can think of where people are happy coming in second or third.

Coming up next.  Which Hebrew can run the fastest in a straight line and which whitey can run the fastest 8 laps.  I can't believe people dedicate their lives to this.  Hours a day, every day seeing how high they can jump over a bar so they can compete in 4 years and win a medal.  If they dedicated that time to doing something productive this world might actually be a better place.

She then fought in the match for the bronze and was elated that she won.

The smile on her face , you would have thought it was gold.

Bronze in the Olympics means you're 3'rd best in the World. Means alot in the judo duckpond. Just as it means alot for a bodybuilder to be 3rd in the Mr. Olympia. They dedicate their lives for that.

The rest of the world really don't care that much and at most shrugs their shoulders when they hear about their countryman winning

But the difference is that there name is in a book somewhere that they placed 3rd in the 1968 Olympics. In that sense, to an extent, their name lives on. Your name will be placed nowhere. As such, there is a much greater chance that their name will be remembered than yours. Its the same thing that I can find a journal article from the year 1930 with some author on it. So, even if one person comes across their name, thats one more person who remembered them, as opposed to you, which will be zero.   But, hey, as long as you're okay with that, no problem here

I guess I'm in a small minority of a billion plus people that would like to see who the fastest human is? Who can lift the most amount of weight overhead? Who is the best marathon runner? What I couldn't care less about is who is the best muscle man without any athletic achievement when I know he looks like crap without the syringe.
