The worst part of the city is the east side. West side borders some decent-ish middle class suburbs, and is where all of the white kids go to buy heroin. Southwest is much more diverse and safer, IMO. Downtown isn't bad because of heavier foot traffic and police presence, but get into the neighborhoods and some are warzones, or overgrown during the Summer and look like a jungle.

I wouldn't want to be caught out anywhere in Detroit late at night, but I've been stranded out there before and had to walk home and wasn't bothered.

I have been through worse black ghettos than that video actually.  Its not as scary as people here think to be honest with you.  You and I both know that.  I just can't understand why they choose to live like that really.  Same with anyone who lives like that.

I concur. 

The east side is a shit hole.  It is very violent on that side of the city.  Even the east side suburbs are a different breed than the west side subs and downriver.  Just much rougher for whatever reason.

West side has it's share of shit holes but there are still some nice neighborhoods.  My favorite fish restaurant (Scotty Simpsons Fish & Chips) is in Brightmoor and we go there several times a year without incident.

Downtown is really coming along nicely and in no time will be on par with other big cities.

Southwest is where both my parents were raised.  Still some diversity but overwhelmingly Hispanic.  No issues going there to eat or shop.

Yeah my mother grew up in Brightmoor at 5 and Lahser, I used to hang out a lot around Lyndon/Rockdale/Dolphin in that neighborhood there, it isn't too bad at least by Detroit standards

Meantime, I have a spacious 900 sq ft 2 bedroom apt for 725.00, I can get fresh meat and produce from practically anywhere, and I have my choice of what I want to drive and who I wish to ride with.  There's nothing better than Southern living.

West Virginia has been voting RED since 2000, and its the poorest states with one of the highest welfare recipients. Mississippi and Alabama are not too far behind. Why can't these republicans get their states in order when it comes to employment and financial and educational growth?

Not trolling. Serious question. Why are the majority of poor states and welfare recipient states red states, often run by republicans? And why have they not fixed this?  Can you provide me with a logical, coherent answer, that is backed up by solid evidence?

Good point. You really can't isolate educational, financial, or economic instability to who is running the state. It is a more complicated manner than that.

My buddy still owns rental homes on Lyndon and Bentler.  Scotties is on the corner of 5/Dolphin.  I grew up a downriver rat but live in Livonia now.  How about you?
