Vick was taken in the 30th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies, despite not playing baseball since the 8th grade.

"I talked to a guy with the Rockies and I was like, 'Man, what made you decide to draft me?'" says Vick, who plans to forgo the baseball opportunity. "He said, 'You have a great arm and we think you can pitch. But we also think you can play centerfield.' I wasn't sure whether to tell him that I couldn't hit for anything."

Another chance for Tebow's fanboys to pretend he washed out of major sport because of his beliefs.

Somehow the NFL gives super-religious Russell Wilson so much love, but not Tebow.   Odd.

Tebow should just take up bodybuilding and get it over with.   Lost any ounce of elusive/escape ability when he bulked, and it cost him his chance to be a 3rd string NFL QB.   Oh, that and the shitty way he SKIPPED A GAME with the jets because he was butthurt they didn't start him.

Tebow is the epitome of the "ME" generation.  Always has to stand out, always has to be the focus, has no chill to him.  Could have let the Alabama QB suck for NYJ and would have been a logical choice for backup the next season... instead, he whines and skips the game and washes out of NFL as a result.

If he wasn't religious, you would call it like he is... a great college athlete that washed out of the pros.  Period.

This. If Tebow was an Atheist or Muslim, certain posters on here would tell it like it is and not give a damn about him.

He works a lot with disabled children and even brought one to the sidelines each week when he played football, and visited with them for an hour or so before or after, from what I've read.

That has zero to do with what I meant. My statement had nothing to do with what he does outside of sports.

Certain posters are only saying how great he is as a SPORTS player because he's religious. If he was not religious, they wouldn't be defending him, saying hes such a great sport player and got screwed. They wouldn't give a damn about him.

He won the Heisman trophy, that alone makes him a legendary athlete, religious or not.

Obviously, we are talking about PROFESSIONAL sports, considering hes passed the minors quite a while ago. Yes, he was a good college athlete, but clearly he could not hack it in the NFL (to continue to play for a team) and wont hack it in the MBL.

My statement stands: if he was anything other than a religious christian/catholic, the same people defending him would not be defending his poor PROFESSIONAL performance. They would not give a damn about him.

He would still be playing in the NFL now, if he didn't insist on being a starting quarterback.

As stated, he'd be a professional football player if he wasn't stubborn about the QB position.  No idea why he felt the need to be like that.

He is a world class athlete and overall good person, based on his actions.   At the very least, he's an intriguing figure who gets too much criticism, IMO.

THIS.

He's a great role model and does an okay job as a backup in tight spots, if a QB goes down in the 3rd quarter of a 13-10 game in Buffalo in November.  He'll suffice.

BUT he was unwilling to be a wildcat, he was unwilling to catch passes or run the ball.  He was even unwilling to be a BACKUP - telling the coach he won't play where the coach wants him, he will only be the started QB.

A lot of his fanboys refuse to realize this.   Tebow acted like a baby when the Alabama kid got the starting spot in NYJ for that last game.  "If I can't play starter, I refuse to play wildcat" is what the coaches said he told them.   And he sat on the sideline refusing to play.  Since then, no team has wanted him.

Tebow is a ME FIRST player.  If he cannot be the starting QB, he refuses to play.   Really selfish.  Tough for coach and others to admit this, but any and every pro should take the TEAM FIRST attitude.  nobody can argue this.  Tebow put himself first.

That's debatable. Who knows if he would have flourished in another position. The only position you can take regarding that stance is, "I don't know." We have zero evidence how he would have fared in another position. Would he have been great in another position? Maybe or maybe not. How can you make a definitive statement about how he would have done in another position? I guess you can have a hypothesis, but you sound pretty definitive.

But again, this really has to do with the fact that people are only defending him because of his religion. Don't be naive. You know other religious people are going to come to his defense because of his catholic/christian faith. If he was Muslim, do you think these same people would be coming to his defense?  ::) ::)

That's my "beef." They are really not defending his professional performance. They are defending him because they share his faith. FACT!!
