In fairness, no one was expecting him to win, and, if anyone has a problem with his getting a contract, take it up with Dana. Punk didn't sign himself.

From a skill and experience standpoint, he should've fought in a small local show, but, he had name value and Dana thought it could be used to sell PPV buys. At the end of the day, it's a business.

Big difference.  Brock was mauling Mir until he gave up his ankle and got caught.  Punk got totally dominated.  He's got guts for giving it a go, but he's simply not cut out for it.

If you watched any part of the ufc youtube series you had a pretty good idea this would happen. I watched the first episode and you could see he was a long way off from being competitive.

Good for him though. At least he's trying something different.

He'd be better off competing on the old ufc challenge reality show. He can only get better from here.

At least he tried. There were rumors that his training partners were destroying him in practice.

Ironically, he could have saved a lot of money and did no training at all and not done any worse.  Apparently, they neglected to teach him how to sprawl to avoid a double leg take down.

not to mention the 9 to 12 million he could have made in the wwe during that time

Two years down the drain, rushed in with no plan whatsoever, adrenalin is no excuse, he's been around similar atmospheres in his previous acting wrestling role, but lets face it two years at this level is no where near whats required when you have no background whatsoever.

Would have been better to have had him in a celebrity match up and just marketed well, theres other famous athletes out there that could have  made it and would have presented a much more competitive match up, Joe Silva should be shot for over matching him, he's not real MMA he's the business of MMA and the product just got ruined.

i dont blame him too much for getting taken down early, we have seen that happen to far more experienced guys.

i do agree with the match making, this kid he fought isnt just a bum, he's a super motivated, young guy, fast, aggressive... i can see him winning against very skilled competition in the near future.

a better match up would been somebody thats a bit over the hill, more patient, somebody that mostly win by decision... not a guy that finish everybody in the first round. also with a veteran they could have played it better - an experienced fighter could say how punk doesnt deserve to be there, that he hasnt been in the wars he has to deserve that spot etc etc with that humble nice guy kid they got none of that, waste of opportunity
