It was mainly because of who he had to compete against. Turning pro was very difficult back then and he had to go up against some of the toughest competition ever.

And he had no intercostals so his midsection always looked smooth

I have two pics of Matt I took on of him at Dave krucks house(Debbie krucks ex) in 1985 lhe looks just like the first pic condition wise but looks 20-30 lbs heavier.I wish I knew how to upload them they are the best pics ever of him.they were out on his patio in the sun in palm beach
