If people have good paying jobs, then they can pay higher prices. The good paying jobs are gone, so those people, now working several part time minimum wage jobs, can't afford to buy anything, except basic food and shelter. High tariffs worked well for the USA's first 125 years, and made this country strong. Judiciously applied, tariffs will work well for the American people again.

Globalization is the reality now.  If the USA closes its doors, the rest of the world will progress without us.  things we buy are just so cheap now overseas... no way 99% of people will pay 35% more for the same stuff, so that 1% of the population can get jobs working in factories again.  That ship has sailed.

For those in USA, free trade means the tools we need to achieve come much cheaper.  

We can learn skills on ipad while working on a laptop while watching a 55 inch televiison while hoverboarding to commercial gym and drinking organic smoothies on way home.    the tools we need to succeed are all there.

The thought of millions of americans going into factories to make Nike shoes, ipads, and for Focuses... how much money an hour do you think they'll demand?  aside form the import tax, think about how much more you have to pay a 40 year old man to "assemble iphones" all day, than what you're paying a 22 year old mexican laborer right now.  

That ipad is gonna be $2000 if it's assembled here by american labor.  Sorry, just the truth.
