Do you ever get melancholic?
« on: September 19, 2016, 11:21:24 AM »
Barely ever happens to me.

The other day though, I heared this song on the radio, thought about the movie, and started crying like a baby (no homo). Life was so much better and light-hearted back then without all that grown-man shit. Opportunites seemed to be endless, like you could do whatever you want with your life once you grow up.... :)

Yes.
It's always sad to think how optimistic you viewed life as a kid.

maybe the reason you like to look back at life as a kid is because you suck at life as an adult?

Summer hollidays seemed to last forever, you remember that too ?
Now they are over before you can say "that's not Lee Priest"....

That's the tragedy of life: each next year alive is a smaller percentage of it. Simply put: time flies faster and faster......

if you did take 3 months off every summer and spent it with the guys, and the guys only, im sure it could seem endless just like in childhood.

but people dont do that, they decided at some point that working, getting a gf and get kids was a great idea and theres no going back from that.

in the words of ice-t - you played yourself.

sometimes but I got over it.  Had a few situations in life that if I took the blue pill could have been retired right now.  Had the chance to get in on a penny stock early.  I told everyone about it.  A lot of people made a lot of money, I never pulled the trigger, sure enough the thing skyrocketed, could have made $18 Million from a modest investment I was planning.  D'oh!

I had a melancholic experience recently when I searched for my favourite cartoon show "Marine Boy" which was shown in UK around 1968 and has never been repeated as far as I know. I was a kid back then and my brother and me loved this Japanese show which was translated into English and shown in UK, USA and Australia.

The minute the music started on the youtube clip I was nearly in tears as I was transported back 48 years.
Some of the old timers on here might remember it.  Fucking haunting tune.

Don't know how to embed as I'm too old for technology.

True true.    But maybe I could still do something with my life,I might possibly not be too old at 31.

btw this kind of sentimental talked about is nostalgia, not melancholia.

Never

I still live my life the exact way I want. Although instead of going to school, I go to work. My free time is spent on things that makes me happy and I still have the same friends in my life I had in the 90s. We listen to the same music, hang out at each other's houses often and nothing's really changed, we're just older.

People get melancholy because they're dumbasses that struggle in life because they're unequipped to handle it. So they hark back for easier days where your ass was wiped for you. I remember being broke quite often, now I have money. I remember having to ask my parents to borrow the car for the night, now I get in my own car. I remember having to sneak girls into the sliding door of my room. Now they come into the front door (naked if I'm lucky - although got a girlfriend now). We had to sit up and wait for TV shows to come on, now I stream everything at an instant. Life is infinitely more comfortable now.

You ignore all the shitty stuff (TV, media, social media, newspapers, 99% of people, attention whores) and embrace the good stuff.

When I hear music from the 80's it takes me back to the care free days my teenage years.  I get nostalgic, but not melancholic.
