The Obama administration on Friday officially accused Russia of carrying out a wide-ranging campaign to influence the 2016 elections, including by hacking the computers of the Democratic National Committee and other political officials.

The denunciation, made by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security, came as pressure was growing from within the administration and some lawmakers to hold Moscow accountable for a set of actions apparently aimed at sowing discord around the election.

The DNC publicly disclosed the intrusions in June, saying their investigation determined Russian government hackers were behind it. That was followed shortly afterwards by a major leak of DNC emails, some so embarrassing that they forced the resignation of the DNC chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, on the eve of the Democratic national convention.

The administration also blamed Moscow for the hack of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the subsequent leak of private email addresses and cell phone numbers of Democratic lawmakers.

Interesting.
It's quite serious from acting administration to come out with something like this in the middle of electoral process as it can be assumed to have an affect on how people vote.

Good, Russia is like a kid who is going to push their limits until they get enough resistance to stop. This is a very small but first step in getting them to stop acting up

I've always thought this.

Question is, how are we going to punish Putin?

And does Hillary have enough time to spin this into a "treason" angle against Trump since he is aiding and abetting?

To be fair,
USA tried to meddle in Russian internal affairs during 2011-2012 and this alleged activity now is Russia just showing they can do the same.

When we start to see funding and arming of BLM movement, we know Russia is serious. This hacking etc. is just kind reminder.

No doubt and this is undoubtedly not the first time they have meddled in our affairs as well. This however is exceptionally blatant and along with all the other instances of acting out. Syria...telling us to think twice about attacking Assad, provacative actions with our military, flying over allied air space a day before we sign military agreements with them, the Philippines, Snowden.

They are flexing their muscles and won't stop until they get resistance.

^ It certainly doesn't look like Russia making the threats.
I believe Russia is too experienced and knows too much to be frightened to stop pursuing its own interests around the world.

(US) Army Chief Issues Stark Warning to Potential Enemies

The U.S. Army's chief of staff on Tuesday issued a stern warning to potential threats such as Russia and vowed the service will defeat any foe in ground combat.

"The strategic resolve of our nation, the United States, is being challenged and our alliances tested in ways that we haven't faced in many, many decades," Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told an audience at the Association of the United States Army's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Since then Russia has responded by moving Iskander missiles to Baltic theater, Kaliningrad and apparently tricked USA to expose their satellite capabilities:

Russia moves nuclear-capable missiles into Kaliningrad

According to Konashenkov, one of the Iskander systems was intentionally exposed to the US reconnaissance satellite flying over in order to clarify the parameters of the spacecraft's operations

And they just stated that strikes against legitimate Syrian government possibly couldn't be separated from strikes against Russian forces, hence any threats need to be responded to.

"And all the illusions of fanboys about invisible jets will face a disappointing reality"  ;D

^^^

A military member making a statement about our superiority is much different than the president. What do you expect our military personnel to say?

Putin and other leading politicians have been the ones provacating the situation from their end and it needs to be meet with resistance from their equivalents on our side

This won't end well.

I go back and forth about bringing children into this world.
Just the thought of a true, all-out, modern war between Russia/China/US keeps me awake at night.

Don't let it.

It wouldn't last long enough to blink.

The world would simply be destroyed and it would be all over.rrrrrrr

Nah, it will end up just like many times in the past.
Nothing will come out of it. Just enough fuel to keep the shit going but little enough to keep it local and limited.

For those of us who remember the good ole' days this is even somewhat boring.
Although back then we didn't get to read about the latest developments in real time and were pretty limited on information we could get in respective places we lived in.
