WARNING: Long and boring. Do not read unless you are WES or Mr MB or need something to fall asleep.

Once again I'm no expert within the supplement field, so maybe some of you old time GetBiggers can pitch in and make this a supplemental historical moment, so that some of these younger GetBiggers can get e-du-ma-ka-ted or simply a reason to rant and rave.

Hoffman and Weider and Gypsy Boots and Rheo H. Blair and Mallard Williamson and Dr. Scott Connelly who came on the scene much later (so I'm sure all worthy GetBiggers can name his product line)

They all come to mind as the supplement pioneers and semi pioneers at present.

There may have been more .... but I never did meet the others that I can recall, but I did have the opportunity to meet or be associated with each of the above at one time or another.

And each were somewhat and/or very successful even though their product/products were initially only of interest to a very small handful of people ... like maybe WES and possibly even MR. MB and maybe two or three others on this board.

Wheat Germ Oil was big back then as well as Braggs's Apple Cider Vinegar. But almost no one was aware of the nutritional value of bee pollen and honey except for some heavy lifters or die-hard hippies.

The 'worsted' supplement of all was the Liver Protein powder (Hoffman's?) which tasted like 6 week old sox after a 100 mile trek in a canopied jungle. (Trust me. I do know jungles well!)

But the most unique supplement was Gypsy Boots' Protein Wafers packaged somewhat similar to Life Savers. You'd put them in your pocket and have one or two egvery hour, but they tasted like alfalfa and made you fart like a race horse.

I was a Weider supplement fan and while overseas in some high canopied jungle I was losing lots of bodywt  until I got back to camp and ordered Weider's liquid gain weight stuff that had the strong taste of Geritol.

And after bottle or two I continued to lose a lot of weight in that leach infested jungle and never ordered it again.

And then, a few years later when I became somewhat civilized once again..... I helped a friend at MLO which I'm sure 99% of you GetBiggers never heard of before .... nor the name of the founder and business owner. (Hint .... His name is posted above.)

All very boring shit until we met Mike Dayton who used to hang himself by the neck until alive.

And the story continues down through the years until the present time. I think I've met all the important ones in this supplement business .... the same guys whom you all seem to despise so much because the stuff they sell that make them rich and open targets for GetBiggers and others with and outside of this bodybuilding game.

Each of them took the risk of offering a somewhat questionable  (Yea! Even back then.) in quart sized, round, cardboard containers with a tin cap that kept the contents fresh.

But once I tried most of them, I once again returned to cottage cheese and yogurt and bee pollen which only came in round glass containers back then.

Things supplement business has definitely changed  but the skepticisn and mistrust and a bit of hatred  still remain the same as it was many years ago.

GetBiggers are great at ensuring that old traditions never.

They bring the feelings of those good old days back to life.

Great post and your stories are always welcomed here but why would bodybuilders care about Apple Cider Vinegar?

POLY, The age-old belief among age-old bodybuilders is that Apple Cider Vinegar helps burn body fat.

Did you ever see a FAT apple?

According to some not too deep thinkers ... that was the original 'thunk' about apple cider vinegar.

Just make sure it doesn't touch your teeth while going down. It will scrub  the enamel away over time.

This above  is old age bodybuilding 'thinks'!

Thinking was somewhat different way back then.

We swore by it`s placebo effect!  LOL  ;D

ACV contains Betain, an acid the helps to digest food so we figured on it keeping our waists small.

Great read. The internet might just be a playground for porn and anonymity, but it's also the best resource for finding snake oil.

Ultimate Orange is the greatest supp of all time.  It was cocaine mixed with Speed, mixed with Caffeine mixed with adderal and tasted orangy.  I had the best workouts of my life on that shit.

POWER, We were just taking about Mallard ad MLO yesterday when I was trying to contact Eddy C. to enquire if he ever owned his own nightclub south of San Francisco. I managed to contact Eddie's best long time friend who assured me that Eddie never did own his own night club .... but he and Eddie did work the front door at a place called Mlagoo's in the town south of San Francisco which I had mentioned earlier on this Board.

While conversing we talked about the days when he (Eddie's lifelong friend) worked for Mallard putting the MLO powder in the 'cans',but he did not recall our discussion about purchasing a 45 fallon drum of Vitamin C and reselling them in little bottles. And he has a memory like an elephant (sometimes).

Just mentioning this because it was funny to see Mallard's name brought up immediately after that telephone conversation.

Which came first ..... MLO or Muscle On? Same product under two different names I believe owned by the same individual.

Does anybody on this Board recall MIKE DAYTON?  Or how about the guy who did resistance exercises while sitting in a tub of 'heavy' mud?

I believe that one made the front cover of one of the magazines.

I assume that none of you GetBiggers met or can even recall Gypsy Boots who could toss a football as far as the eye can see (on a foggy day, of course).

How bout Wynn Paris? Jack LaLanne's main man who helped set up the LaLanne studios all over California. He was also the first to set up a protein MLM organization which a few big names became a part of.

During those MLM meetings Wynn would hand out hundred dollar bills for just about anything. That got everyone's attention and got that MLM company off the ground .... for a couple of months at least.

How about PAX Beale?

So many great and colorful individuals back then and they will never be copied in this day and age. The world and everyone within it have just changed too damn much.

RONNIE, Yep, I do remember those tablets. I think that the originals were a Hoffman product.

Correct or no?

Thank you, Medford! I have not read that 'link' you provided yet but will do so after posting the following.

TAFFIN ..... TOMMY WISHBONE knew Mike Dayton much more than I ever did and I just re-discovered that TW posted some interesting info on Mike and another tuff individual on this board back in 2006.

Maybe TOMMY will post some more detailed Mike Dayton info here if is sti a contributing GetBig member.

But here is a photo of Mike doing his hanging-by-the-neck stunt.

A somewhat mutual friend once told me that Mike was planning to do that stunt while hanging from the Golden Gate Bridge ... but that could have been a publicity statement or a rumor or it's possible that he actually did it.

Since he first performed this stunt ... Mike only commits major crimes in states that have the hanging by the neck death penalty. (This is an ill attempt to be FUNNY ... But it ain't.)

WARNING : DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
