The Universe is 93 billion light years across
« on: October 12, 2016, 04:42:07 PM »
How did it expand to 93 billion light years across if the universe was created 13 billion years ago? That means space is expanding faster than the speed of light? Which means that anything past the opaque wall of the big bang's origin will never been seen with a telescope since it's traveling away from us faster than speed of light?

Check this video out for perspective of how small Earth is compared to the size of the Universe

if its expanding faster than the speed of light, does that mean that light emitted 'backwards' travels at a negative speed?

The reality of what is happening is even bleaker that than.

Everything that is not gravitationally bound to us will eventually be completely invisible to us - no light will be able to make the journey to us.  Big bang, almost all other galaxies.. everything.

Are lights allowed to be on in room 7?

Or is it too risky that there might be eye contact during light frottage.

Space itself expands faster than the speed of light

This.
People say its impossible because the speed of light is the fastest thing in the universe, but we're talking about the universe itself. The speed of light is the limit within the expanding universe, but the universe expands faster than the speed of light. We are familiar with the rules WITHIN the universe, we can only hypothesize about what is or can happen OUTSIDE of it.
Here's a good article which explains it: http://www.space.com/33306-how-does-the-universe-expand-faster-than-light.html
