Greeting Coach,
"Big Pat, I knew Jesse when he trained at Olympus gym in Montebello along with Eddie Holmes and Ellis "Spanky" Evans (who I just recently re-connected with). At that time Jesse claimed to a heart surgeon and then come to find out is wasn't true. Yes, Jesse was a Senator and now resides on Guam, where my wife of 9 years is from where her family is involved in politics. Let's just says he's a pretty corrupt politician. He knows me and I know him. Planning a trip (the first one) to Guam to visit family and hopefully meet up wit him.
However I will say this, he was a damn good lightweight bodybuilder."
When I met Jesse he was training at the Grossmont Jr. College weight room, must have been around 1981 or so. He said he was connected to the UCSD Medical school and would sometimes wear scrub tops when he came in the gym. Always trained with a swimmer named Gary, if my memory serves me well. He weighed about 190 lbs or so and trained with some good sized weights for his size. I remember him talking about steroids once and he made mention that when your on them the "pump never goes away". Never knew he was interested in physique competition until I saw him in Muscle Digest (?) a few years later. After Grossmont College "kicked" all the non students out of the weight room, most went down to Bill Golumbick's Valley Barbell Club in El Cajon. Over the years I have talked to a few people who knew him and they all spoke of the "tall tales" he told.
Be safe and strong,
Big Pat
