By '81 Ken WALLER looked like crap... what happened?

Looks like he really lost some size. A lot of formerly-great bodybuilders hobbled into the '81 Olympia. Did he tear his left bicep?

Waller would gain a lot of size in the off season, then over diet to get cut down.  He lost muscle size in the process.  Also, he seemed to age very rapidly after 1980.

I believe he had a bad tricep rupture. I bet back then they didn't have the surgical expertise to repair properly. I think that's when he started sliding down hill physique wise.

It had to do with lots of stimulants to diet, as was becoming more vogue.  See Mike Mentzer.  Also by then things were trending to a more lean look, eventually culminating in guys actually being shredded.

The old crew was starting to dimnish. The 1970's were gone and a new era had started. He was huge into coke. I had one old bodybuilding magazine that lasted like two years if that. It was the best one out there since it talked about steroids more openly then Muscle and Fitness did. One of the guys were saying that Waller was a huge partier, wore sunglasses to the gym because his eyes were fried. It even went on to say that the guys knew what Arnold was taking and they did the say but never got to his size.

This is the perfect example that "heavy ass weight" doesn't mean building huge muscles,

you can do dumbell press with 85 lbs and turn pro .... is what you "take" what really makes the difference .
