sociology, anthropology etc are not non-sense degrees. Arts degrees aren't nonsense either.
The soft sciences are very necessary, things like history etc.
Some knowledge of history, sociology, art, and anthropology can be useful. I can agree that society is better off if
some people have it.
That does not mean taxpayers should pay for four year degrees in those fields, and it certainly does not mean they should pay the prices now charged.
If a student spends 50k a year on art history, the first question is whether they can repay it. If the honest answer is no, they should not take the loan. They also should not treat other people’s money as an entitlement that makes the degree “affordable.”
Useful knowledge and a college degree are not the same thing.
