Howard A. Smith is a lecturer in the Harvard University Department of Astronomy and a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

"We seem to be cosmically special, perhaps even unique — at least as far as we are likely to know for eons."

"The universe, far from being a collection of random accidents, appears to be stupendously perfect and fine-tuned for life. The strengths of the four forces that operate in the universe — gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear interactions (the latter two dominate only at the level of atoms) — for example, have values critically suited for life, and were they even a few percent different, we would not be here."

"The bottom line for extraterrestrial intelligence is that it is probably rarer than previously imagined, a conclusion called the misanthropic principle. For all intents and purposes, we could be alone in our cosmic neighborhood"

"Some of my colleagues strongly reject this notion. They would echo Hawking: “I can’t believe the whole universe exists for our benefit.” Yes, we all have beliefs — but beliefs are not proof. Hawking’s belief presumes that we are nothing but ordinary, a “chemical scum.” All the observations so far, however, are consistent with the idea that humanity is not mediocre at all and that we won’t know otherwise for a long time. It seems we might even serve some cosmic role"

We could be in a multiverse with infinite universes all tuned to different settings, it's all speculation.

Even one intelligent lifeform per 100 billion stars would yield over a trillion intelligent lifeforms in the universe, and that's not even taking into account the past 14 billion years. It is incomprehensibly large.

we're not that special.

shave a silverback and he can do some damage on the olympia stage.

kangaroo could do well in mma as we saw in earlier video clip.

and a whale, although having a problem getting shredded, do pack a lot of mass off-season.

And yet, we humans have dominion over all of them.

And yet, we humans have dominion over all of them.

Physiologically, man is no more special than any other form of life.  What sets us apart is our awareness of our mortality,  which is the root of all good and evil.

The real mystery is to why Hawking was at the pedophile Jeff Epstein's pleasure island?

Stephen Hawking pictured on Jeffrey Epstein's 'Island of Sin'

The celebrated physicist can be seen at a barbecue on Little St James as well as taking a boat cruise and submarine tour of the sea bed off the island.
Epstein, 61, is said to have paid for the submarine to be modified for Professor Hawking, who had never been underwater before.
The Cambridge professor visited Epstein's "Island of Sin" in March 2006 shortly before the paedophile billionaire was charged by police in Palm Beach with unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Theory going around that Hawking died in the mid 80s and was replaced.

He's lived about 30 years longer than anyone in the world with ALS. Most only live 5 years. He's lived 50+.

Because that ancient collection of nonsense called the Bible has all the answers. Real people are trying to think with their brains here.

I'm feeling so much better about not being a billionaire.  Those girls looks like something I'd drag home from the pub then wish I hadn't.

” Yes, we all have beliefs — but beliefs are not proof.

I am glad you agree. Faith is nothing more then the fear of the unknown. Don't worry MOS, people have been fearing the unknown since the dawn of man. Which is why many religions predate Christianity. You weren't the first, and as Scientology proves, you will definitely not be the last religion that gains traction in this world.

In 500 years, God/Jesus might be in the same category as Zeus.
