How many calories do you eat a day?
« on: December 05, 2016, 08:19:57 PM »
I've been trying to reduce my calorie intake since the end of October. I've shed a few pounds so far. How many calories do you guys eat on a daily basis when you want to lose bodyweight? What's a minimum amount in order to stay healthy if one is reasonable active. I'm 39, 5'10" (closer to 5'9.5" these days actually) and my bodyweight is around 198-199 in socks.

im 6 foot, weight a lil less than you. i usually go pretty aggressive right off thr bat to get motivated and see results. 1700-2000 cals. ince i start looking how i want, i back off a bit to 2200 or 2300' and then drop down to 17-1800 when i want to peel

i justify these with my day to day work load. my workouts are not super intense. move some heavyish weight for 40 min and leave. its not like im doing crossfit style sessions or endurance based stuff...if i was, id be eating wayyy more

If you have a fast metabolism bw x18, medium metabolism bw x14, slow metabolism bw x12, carbs at 50%, protein at 40%, fat at 10% of daily caloric intake, so on any given day I may consume a little over 3,000 cals on a high day or as low as 2,000 on a low day.

Funny that you claim that.
A friend of mine, in 9 year span, got shorter 1 full inch. Measurements taken before bb competitions, so he was equally dehydrated on both of them. He is 44 or 45 now.

I've gradually lost height in the last 10-12 years (since late 20's). I've been lifting weights since 11 years old which has compressed me a bit, couple with bad posture and the fact that the average male naturally loses 1/4-1/3" PER decade after 30 (the average female loses 1/2" in the same time). So yeah, I was consistently 5'10 1/8" (morning height) from 18-28 and am now 5'9 3/8" (morning height) at 39, which again has been a gradual loss. About 3/4" height loss. Sucks, but what are you going to do.

I can't believe you people are still stuck on calories. It's not about calories it's about how carbs, sugar, fat and protein works within the body.

Dude I honestly hope you don't believe this, trust me humans have very different metabolisms I've seen some extreme cases of individuals with insane metabolisms, for instance my ex gf, she weighed between 95 to 105 our entire relationship (over 1 year), she is a marketing executive who is almost seditary, besides us having sex, she is not active at all, she never even stepped foot in a gym, she had the most caloric diet you could imagine, she would take down insane amounts of food, burgers, fries, pizza, she would drink me under the table, anytime we went out to dinner with other couples people were astounded by the amount of food she took down and how tiny she was, really it was incredible, she would not gain an ounce of fat. I have so many other examples, some of my black friends on the ship, eat absolutely terrible, pancakes with syrup, cheesy eggs, hashbrowns with ketchup, chocolate milk for breakfast, burgers and fries for lunch, candy bars, bags of flaming hot Cheetos, Fried chicken, mac and cheese for dinner, always having sugary juices with every meal, and these guys are absolutely shredded. So I know for a fact not all humans are created equal especially when it comes to metabolism.

Dude I have so many examples, I'm around a lot of people due to my employment, and I've witnessed some incredible individuals with crazy genetics, theres another guy on my ship he is 60, he's from the Phillipines, he's a dish washer, the guy is an anatomy chart, he has the physique of Manny Pacquiao and Bruce Lee combined, he is small but completely shredded head to toe, cross striations, vascularity..it's unreal, the guy smokes a pack a day and eats like shit, breakfast always has a huge coffee with cream and a ton of sugar, a few pastries, doughnuts, cereal, lunch and dinner typical Fillipino diet, tons of rice, with meat, and always has ice cream with lunch and dinner. He trains in our gym like 2-3 days a week, just light, pump, circuit type full body workouts. I tell him all the time how crazy his genetics are, he barely speaks English, but always smiles and says to me "no you are the boss" ;D He has a daughter in the Phillipines who is like 24, I always tell him I want to marry her and breed a super athlete.

Metabolic rate is dictated by your lean body mass, its likely your ex girlfriend had something wrong with her thyroid to cause her lack of weight gain, if she wasnt purging that is.

Im sick to death of hearing skinny people say "oh I eat loads" they are full of shit when you finally pin them down
Same thing with fat fucks who say "I never eat"

Unless your ill and have thyroid issues metabolisms are pretty much the same, its dependant on LBM.
Lean people that are inactive dont eat a lot.

Your flat earth and original hebrew rants were epic feats of trolling, but you're damn right about the essence of macro nutrients.

She wasn't purging the girl lived with me, we went on numerous vacations together, she was very inactive, like I said never even seen the inside of a gym. And when you say lean inactive people don't eat a lot, most of the people I've known throughout life the smaller/skinnier the person usually ate a ton, and vise versa, a lot the bigger dudes that I've trained with or just hungout with were not very big eaters at all.

Calories is not that big of a deal if you want to lose weight lower your carb intake and make sure that those few carbs are slow digesting like sweet potatoes and yams etc, eat mostly protein, vegetables and healthy fats add in some weight training and cardio and you will be shredded in no time, losing weight is very simple people just try to make it complicated.

Know this if you keep reducing your calories your body will think its in starvation mode and it will hold on to the fat to protect itself and you wont lose any weight.

I can't believe you people are still stuck on calories. It's not about calories it's about how carbs, sugar, fat and protein works within the body.

I used to think this way too....it's about caloric intake though.  Too many calories in and you gain weight.  Burn more than you take it you lose.  Find that caloric range to sustain your weight and you'll neither gain nor lose.   That straightforward for the majority of folks.   Not super easy to do, but that simple in concept.
