WBF vs. WWF in a tug-of-war match
« on: December 19, 2016, 02:11:30 PM »
Have you ever stayed awake all night trying to answer the age-old question of who would win in a tug-of-war match between professional wrestlers and greased up 90's bodybuilders? I know Nether Animal probably has. Thankfully an old, rich schmoe put up the schmoe dough to make a getbigger's top 5 fantasy a reality. Try not to get a boner.

WBF Team: Jim Quinn, Tony Pearson, Troy Zuccolotto, Aaron Baker, Danny Padilla, and Tom Platz

WWF Team: Ric Flair, The Mountie, Skinner, Irwin R. Schyster (I.R.S.) Ted Dibiase and The Berzerker

I'm sure those kids were coached to chant "WBF" for the camera.  ::)

The WBF guys were giving up over 200 lbs of bodyweight.

Whose bright idea was it to make Platz the anchor for the WBF team? Platz weighed 190 max. The Berzerker weighed over 300 lbs.

Plus, WBF also lost some size because Eddie Robinson was supposed to be on the team. But, because he just got married and was on his honeymoon (I think), they replaced him with Danny Padilla.

FWIW, Steve "Skinner" Kern was also an alternate, substituting for Rick "The Model" Martel.

Perhaps. Notice that Team WWF is composed of heels.

They did the same thing with the Family Feud deal, using heels from the WWF. Plus, that team had two wrestlers (Brian Knobbs of the Nasty Boys and "The Mountie" Jacques Rogeau) and three managers (Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, Jimmy "Mouth of the South" Hart, and "Sensational" Sherri Martel).

Andre was in poor health; he died less than a year after this.

I'm not sure if Barbarian and Warlord were still there.

Based on the WWF's roster at the time, I would have used: Razor Ramon, The Berserker, the Mountie, Kamala, Papa Shango, and Nailz.

There's a video out there of Eddie Robinson vs Sgt Slaughter in an arm wrestling match.

Eddie pinned him pretty easily if I recall.

I think I saw that.

Here's some funny footage from the 1992 WBF Championship, of Eddie rehearsing his routine with the machine gun.

This is the Coliseum Video bonus footage. On the live show, Sean Mooney did a cut to footage of the '92 WBF Personal Fitness Expo, where he interviewed some wrestlers (LOD and Kerry "Texas Tornado" Von Erich). Then, he introduced Dr. Mauro DiPasquale, who talked about the WBF drug testing protocols; and finally, he interviewed "The Future" Jim Quinn about his performance.

Then the PPV went to a 5-minute intermission, after which Mooney interviewed WBF Champion Gary Strydom and did an intro to the prejudging footage with head judge, Dave Draper and assistant judge (and former Gold's Gym owner), Pete Grymkowski.

Andre was too sick and feeble. That's why I said Earthquake would have worked better.

Oh, didn't know Andre's prime. They said he was a tremendous puller, pushing nothing special. Gotta be if you're 4-5 hundred lbs.

This tug of war was in mid 1992 and Andre died in early 1993.

I still think the WBF did itself a disservice (assuming this tug of war wasn't a work...wink, wink....) by getting smaller bodybuilders to participate. Danny Padilla, instead of Eddie Robinson, doesn't work for me.

Put the Delray Misfits VS a Getbig line-up and we'll see what team wins.
