I understand and that's the fault of the judges. Which is why Classic Physique will eventually overtake the open because we respect physiques like Phil at 222 vs. Phil at supposedly 250 and a blown out gut and no V-taper. Phil's just doing what he has to to win and I understand just like Jay who stated he never wanted to be that big, he just wanted to win. Well the nonsense has to come to an end sooner or later and now seems a good of time as any. Phil's gut is atrocious. He can deny it all day. He has a good eye for detail and he knows he has this gut. These guys end of justifying it with some excuse. Last time he looked great was in 2013 and even then he was too big for his frame.

Yep - I think we will see this.  Even though Classic Physique is not particularly "attainable" for 99.9% of people, there will still be many who are inspired by that type of physique, and who will want to watch such bodybuilders as a result.

I would be curious if the Classic Bodybuilding Division [CBD, like the non-psychoactive version of marijuana  ;D] displaces the open division completely...it will be cool to see.  But I think there will still be a market for freaks.

At this point, I'm not questioning your prediction of CBD overtaking the open...I'm questioning how quickly that will happen.

Maybe after winning nine Sandows, Phil can slim down to the Classic Bodybuilding class and win nine Sandows in that division.  ;D

Speaking of that division, do you know who has been killing it there even as of this very year?  Darrem Charles.  Cool stuff for a guy who has been competing since 1989!

He has a win this year, and a whopping six wins and five runner up spots, and a 5th place spot at the Mr. Olympia last year in 2016 at the age of 48?  I remember when you were going over your list of pros who had great genetics, and it was a good list, but I have to say, it never crossed my mind to ask you what you thought of Darrem - he may not have been the biggest guy, but wow, what a contest history right here:

What's wrong with being rich on detail?  I can tell you that Phil himself read my posts on here years ago, and respected them - not all of them, as I probably called him out for needing to bring up his back, more harshly than I should have.  ;D  But truth be told, why not learn from the mistakes of others?  Ronnie competed for too long, and his goal of ten Mr. Olympias is likely what made the judges finally side with Jay.  They wanted to move on to another champion...a pro bodybuilder told me in 2010 that Jay was going to be given a win that day, but the judges were not interested in letting him win the next year, so 2010 was going to be Jay's last year.  What happened?  He decided to compete again in 2011, and the torch was passed to Phil.

I think for a host of reasons, both health-wise, and legacy-wise, Phil should stop at #9.  He then has a chance to start reversing some of the problems he may have caused by taxing his central nervous system for so many years due to the demands of pro bodybuilding.

I speak a lot, rich in detail, as does Nick from "Nick's Strength & Power" - and there is a time and a place for rich, detail-oriented posts.  I happen to like them, as do many other people.  There is a reason I had the audience I did over the years - people do read what I write.

With that said, I would likely have removed this bit from my post:

Even though I liked the comparison, it wasn't directly related to Phil's career trajectory, whereas the rest of my post was.  It was relevant, on-point, but long.  But this bit involving Dave Pulcinella...not relevant, and perhaps a wee bit too esoteric for the purposes of this thread.

Ron should add an IGNORE function on this board so that people can just ignore users.  As for me, if people don't like my posts or think they are too long - they should just scroll past them.  No one is forcing to read them, right?  So I don't see the issue.

Ultimately, when one pro after another says that they read my posts and watch my videos and respect them, that matters more to me than the insults of people who hide behind screen names [and no, I am not speaking about yourself - but other people].

99% of the people on here don't give a flying fuck about walls of text, they want a few quips and jokes.

And I imagine Phil logs in here everyday to keep up to date with your critiques of him... ::)

Darrem has some of the best biceps ever in the sport and is one of the best posers ever. Great chest for a smaller guy as well. And yes, he's been around a very long time. He also said a long time ago he wanted to be around a long time.

Phil actually does read forums, he walked up to a poster on MD and asked them about something they said about him in a post

No fucking way 75.

The people who get themselves in trouble are people who do multiple contests a year and are trying to stay shredded year round for guest posing. Phil doesn't stay shredded year round or compete other than the olympia. So his kidneys are in better shape than most pros in my opinion.

He would have been healthier if he stuck with basketball and played in full court leagues after college. Maybe added a little natural lifting. I bet all the drugs have taken a toll.  Curious to see what he looks like when he retires. It won't be pretty. It's funny that some fall apart, some still juice for publicity pictures, and some seem like they take good care of them self. Lee Haney looks in good shape post retirement. Looks like he trains without juice but looks like an athlete.

Fixed.

Although I don't know if Phil logs in everyday necessarily - or logs in at all.  He may just read Getbig once a week for all I know.

Be There, serious question - do you not think that pros read Getbig?

Lol, it's funny for me to ask that, and it is a rhetorical question since I know the answer, but after asking pros that question directly, I was initially shocked by the number of pros who read Getbig...then I no longer found it surprising.

Yes, pros read Getbig.  It's not that Phil comes here to specifically read my long posts - but Phil, as well as other pros, have perused Getbig in the past, and I am confident that many still do.  That includes your posts and many others.  You might be surprised at who reads your posts.  I probably read 90% of your posts, and it may be closer to 99%, from start to finish [and yes, it helps that your posts are shorter than mine].

But one thing I have learned is that you may be surprised who is reading what you write.  I didn't mean to say that Phil specifically reads my posts - just that he reads Getbig, in the general sense.  Could be daily, could be from time to time only.  Or maybe he got fed up with it and decided to stop reading it completely.  I have to admit, even when I left Getbig, I read it every day.  ;D

Yes, that's right.  :)

Phil used to read Getbig, and he was BY FAR not the only pro who read the G&O board here.  It could be that he hasn't read since 2007 when he told me he read here, but based on conversations with him years after that, I got the impression he was still reading the boards.

Ronnie Coleman admitted to reading the boards, on video, in a video that was on YouTube, but may have since been taken down.

At the 2007 Arnold, Arnold himself stated that Lou was likely outside the Veteran's Memorial theatre, "probably selling autographs", LOL.  My suspicion is that he read that post from the boards, since it is stated so frequently on the boards.

So yeah...do you find any of that hard to believe?  Do you want me to give you an exact answer like "Phil Heath comes on Getbig seven times every three weeks for 85 minutes per session to read the posts of Be There, Ron, and Tommywishbone."

I couldn't tell you that...but do I suspect Phil still reads Getbig?  Yes, I do.

I'm not saying he reads my posts - that would just be incidental to reading the boards, period.  What I am saying is that a lot of pros read Getbig, or used to.  It was thought that Tom Prince posted on here under a pseudonym.  Based on the writing style of the user in question, I would bet money on that.

Why wouldn't people want to read Getbig?  It is probably the "realest" board around.  :)
