Trump announces 8,000 more jobs for American workers
Published December 28, 2016
FoxNews.com

President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday the addition of roughly 8,000 new jobs for Americans, including 5,000 that telecommunications giant Sprint will bring from “all around the world.”

“They’re coming back to the United States, which is a nice change,” he said.

Trump, who takes office January 20, said the other 3,000 jobs will be hires from a new company called One Web.

Trump was elected in part on the promise to return to the United States jobs that American companies had moved overseas, in search of cheaper labor costs.

Last month, he announced that Carrier would keep roughly 1,000 jobs in Indiana, after months of criticizing the air-conditioning corporation on the campaign trail for plans to move the jobs to Mexico.

Trump spoke Wednesday from his Mar a Largo estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

The wealthy businessman-turned politician also said he had a “nice” and “general” conversation earlier in the day with outgoing President Obama.

Trump opposed the Obama administration’s move last week to allow the United Nations to pass a resolution condemning Israel for building more settlements in the disputed West Bank.

He said Secretary of State John Kerry’s speech earlier Wednesday defending the administration’s U.N. decision “spoke for itself.”

Trump, who in recent days has been especially critical of the U.N., also said that the international body “has tremendous potential but is not living up to itself.”

Trump added he had help on the jobs deals from several people including Massayoshi Son, the chief executive officer for SoftBank of Japan, which owns Sprint.

Trump has had previous business dealings with Son, whom he described on Wednesday as a “terrific guy.”

Hmm, does this mean the 5,000 folks from around the world will be working at Sprint using temporary visas? What happens when their visas expire? Will they go home or will they get a green card which allows them to work and live in the U.S. permanently, thus becoming immigrants? Are said "immigrants" restricted, depending on their home country or is everyone welcome, including qualified Syrians and South Americans....not forgetting Indians who currently work as phone tech reps for Sprint and other American companies farming out their labor needs to India? Does it matter if they practice Islam? It is the second largest religion in India. Cutting them a break, Indian Muslims are generally not radical, so that's a good thing.

??  They are talking about creating these jobs in the U.S., not bringing over foreign workers.

It looks like you are correct. My error. Sprint is moving the jobs, not the people. Or if some of the people come with their jobs, they can get green cards and thus sort of be considered Americans.

If Sprint is putting 5,000 foreigners from around the world out of work and who probably are somewhat cheaper labor, what's in it for Sprint. Did this large corporation have a change of heart and develop a sense of loyalty to the U.S. or are they being offered a deal they can't refuse?

Something doesn't add up.

...or another publicity stunt for Trumptards to buy into. These are the same jobs that he "saved" earlier this month. The same ones that were announced before the election took place. The same ones that appear to be part of  some sort of public relations quid pro quo to help Sprint to grease the wheel and merge with Tmobile despite the fact that regulators have tried to prevent it because it will hurt consumer competition. The same vaguely defined jobs with no clear timeline (or even a vague timeline).

I guess it went over my head like your post from last week where you used an anonymous twitter account as a news source. Or from a few weeks ago when you used a 3 day old website with only one article posted to it as a new source. Or when you post facebook videos that show literally the opposite of what you claim they show. Your sense of humor is just too sophisticated for a dumb lib.  ::)

Really? You must be ignoring that his administration is credited with creating 15,000,000 jobs. Obama's detractors even agree with this.

Since President Barack Obama first took office:

Homicides have dropped 13 percent, but gun sales have surged.
The economy has added more than 9 million jobs, and the jobless rate has dropped to below the historical median.
The number of long-term unemployed Americans has dropped by 614,000 under Obama, but it is still 761,000 higher than at the start of the Great Recession.
Corporate profits are up 166 percent; real weekly wages are up 3.4 percent.
There are 15 million fewer people who lack health insurance.
Wind and solar power have nearly tripled, and now account for more than 5 percent of U.S. electricity.
The federal debt has more than doubled — rising 116 percent — and big annual deficits have continued.

If they can bring back the call centers from India to US it would be great. Maybe they can have Goodrum supervise them.

It is getting ridiculous, unless it is a small local company, chances are if you call a helpdesk you will get an Indian to answer the phone. It is odd when you hear people with very heavy clearly Indian accent say their name is "Charles" or "Jennifer" and use odd mannerisms.

bingo and the usual cast of suckers on this board have lined up to congratulate themselves

Quote
Sprint later said that the jobs were part of a previously announced commitment by Japan’s SoftBank, which owns a controlling stake in the mobile phone carrier, to invest $50 billion in the United States and create 50,000 positions. That announcement, made by Masayoshi Son, the chief executive of SoftBank, followed a meeting with Mr. Trump this month.

SoftBank is also a major investor in OneWeb, a satellite start-up that Mr. Trump said Wednesday would create an additional 3,000 jobs in the United States.

Although Mr. Trump claimed credit for SoftBank’s $50 billion investment in the United States, those plans predated the election, and Mr. Son has owned a controlling stake in Sprint, among other companies, for several years.

With George W. Bush and Barack Obama, here's where all the jobs went:

All Employment Growth Since 2000 Went to Immigrants

Government data show that since 2000 all of the net gain in the number of working-age (16 to 65) people holding a job has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). This is remarkable given that native-born Americans accounted for two-thirds of the growth in the total working-age population. Though there has been some recovery from the Great Recession, there were still fewer working-age natives holding a job in the first quarter of 2014 than in 2000, while the number of immigrants with a job was 5.7 million above the 2000 level.

All of the net increase in employment went to immigrants in the last 14 years partly because, even before the Great Recession, immigrants were gaining a disproportionate share of jobs relative to their share of population growth. In addition, natives' losses were somewhat greater during the recession and immigrants have recovered more quickly from it. With 58 million working-age natives not working, the Schumer-Rubio bill (S.744) and similar House measures that would substantially increase the number of foreign workers allowed in the country seem out of touch with the realities of the U.S. labor market.

Three conclusions can be drawn from this analysis:

First, the long-term decline in the employment for natives across age and education levels is a clear indication that there is no general labor shortage, which is a primary justification for the large increases in immigration (skilled and unskilled) in the Schumer-Rubio bill and similar House proposals.

Aren't we supposed to be moving forward? Instead it seems like a lot of people are mired in the past whether accurately or inaccurately.

The fact that you lump Bush and Obama together implies this is not a party issue for you. That's one good thing. The question we should be asking according to the information you just posted is, who will be filling the jobs of the future? Will they continue to be part-time workers with no benefits like many of them are now? Who will be at the bottom of the ladder with not much hope in ever climbing it? Will it be all those natives you speak of which Trump will be "creating" jobs for?

Come to think of it, this might be a good tactic, create low paying jobs for the natives which will result in less jobs for those hold them now and maybe they'll go back to wherever they came from since they are mostly immigrants anyway. In this way we can become just like so many other 3rd world countries quicker.
