Cardiac arrest...likely due to the 80's lifestyle of hard partying, coke, etc.  He lived in the Bahamas at the time so he didn't want to spend days on end making videos.  He would just come in, sing a few bars, goof around and be gone in about 2 hours at most to get back to his business.  He also had all hotties with the same outfits on to keep the focus solely on him.    That's why his videos were so simplistic.
