First time deadlifting in a year
« on: January 04, 2017, 12:42:01 PM »
So I stopped leg training 15 months ago to start cycling.

Today was first day back doing a deadlift. Managed 165kgs.  Any thoughts on this as a starting base? Did reps at 155kgs after.

nobody knows when the deadlift craze started

I wish you convinced me of that in the 1980's  :'(

I blew my low back out big time doing heavy deads.

I can see some possible benefit in back thickness doing controlled form pulls from  lower knee ht in a rack.

it is impossible to hurt yourself on the deadlift or any exercise - ever!!! if you have perfect form every time!!! (which nobody has)

exactly.

my gym is full of small weak guys who do deadlifts and it doesnt do shit for them. they spend more time getting ready for deads than i do my whole workout.

If you blew out your back that was your fault, there are only 3 reasons why you would get injured doing deadlifts, bad form, lifting a weight that you cant handle or trying for one more rep after your muscle is fatigued, if you avoid these 3 things you will never get injured doing deadlifts.

OP keep it up, bro.

heavy deadlifts are damn good exercise. I always finish with 180 kg 10-15 reps. I dont go below 8 reps and i focus on good form.

my whole body has become bigger from squats and deadlifts big time. i do recommend. :)

squats are king exercise imo.

i have hurt my back few times. it was always when attempting to go heavier. so decided to stick with 4 plates for last set and that has been ok for more than a year.

You seem to advocate just doing high reps with moderate poundage's and stop before you get fatigued.

Is that what you suggest?
