Record 95,102,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Number Grew 18% Since Obama Took Office in 2009

CNSNews.com) - Barack Obama's presidency began with a record number of Americans not in the labor force, and it's ending the same way.

The final jobs report of the Obama presidency, released Friday, shows that the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by 14,573,000 (18.09 percent) since January 2009, when Obama took office, continuing a long-term trend that began well before Obama was sworn in.

In December, according to the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 95,102,000 Americans were not in the labor force, 47,000 more than in November; and the labor force participation rate was 62.7 percent, a tenth of a point higher than in November.

The participation rate dropped to a 38-year low of 62.4 percent on Obama's watch, in September 2015. It was only 3-tenths of a point higher than that last month.

These reports are stupid.  Does not account for people in school and college, people who have retired, disability, etc.

  • I am. The most interesting man in the world. (Not)

Yes it does.  All of those folks are included.  From the article:  "People over age 16 who are no longer working or even looking for work, for whatever reason (retirement, school, personal preference, or gave up), are counted as not participating in the labor force."

What this report doesn't do is segregate the people who are no longer looking based on futility, school, retirement, etc.  But the fact remains the rate grew substantially under Obama.

I think the growth of this number is related to the expansion of the number of people on public assistance.

Vince, then what do you attribute the massive rise in the number of people claiming disability under the obama administration to?

When these pieces of crap ran out of unemployment and/or welfare, or saw they were in government fluff jobs that were going to be eliminated they suddenly could not work due to a disability. And obama promoted this to make his unemployment figures look better.

Obama isn't responsible for people committing disability fraud.  Yes, the government should do more but some people are lazy pieces of shit and will find anyway to game the system.  They should be out on a chain gang picking up garbage but that's just wishful thinking
