I read an article on BBC about how click bait and fake news keeps getting circulated as true because of how people are "sharing" stories without first reading them thoroughly. In some cases, the story is the exact opposite of the title, but the reader has been struck so hard by the title that they share it anyway because it may fit their narrative. It was brought to light during the election but holds true in many other situations.
