THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON

It came to them very late,

When the Saxon began to hate.
They were not easily moved,

It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.

Does this poem speak to the collective subconscious of a people? I find it odd that a World War One poem can still hold some truths today. I know the "hate" portion is a bit oversimplified, but this still is very relevant today.
