Their 15% is a federal sales tax, not a state sales tax. That money goes directly into Mexico's federal coffers. That's where the tax money, that Trump is proposing, will go. And, it will pay for the Wall.

You're just not getting it...I'll let you read up on the difference, I've already typed too much.

Not pointing anyone out, but it's funny to see all these liberals are now yelling about "fiscal responsibility" when it comes to trade.

I'm just here to troll... Come to Politics board for more serious discussions. Nether Animal thanks you in advance.  :D

On everything. So if we do that, then your car will also get a 15% sales tax even if it's made in the States. That's what a VAT does in Mexico. It's just an additional sales tax on everything.

Now, if Trump decides to implement some kind of Tariff and it helps, great!

If it hurts, people are gonna be kinda pissed.

If you pay the VAT on imported goods, then you have to pay that tax. If you pay the VAT on American goods and services, you will be able to deduct it on your federal income tax.

That's what I heard some of Trump's tax advisors were recommending. That would work, as it is exactly what other countries do too.

Oh dear! Are you ok? You typed like 12 lines in five posts? And, that's too much? Arms broke, or is it just beyond your mental capacity?

Obviously, I read up more that you did, therefore your hasty retreat.

hell no, (as a non-American) i'm hoping that Trump proceeds with his idea to implement 20-30% tariffs on some imports because it'll be very entertaining to observe how that plays out haha

If the US implemented the same vat as Mexico uses, you'd be paying 15% more on Mexican goods and 15% more on your Michigan made Ford.

I can't put it  more simply for you...

If you had read all my posts, then you would see that the VAT you pay on American made goods and services, will be deductible on your federal income tax. No the VAT you pay on imported goods and services. Exactly what other countries do, but not the USA.

This is what Trump was talking about, how we were being screw by these free trade treaties and agreements. He's going to get us better deals. You know, THE ART OF THE DEAL!

Let's see, since I don't know much about worldly economics, who will I trust? Trump or a PhD Economics Professor? hmmmm, tough choice  :D :D :D

Paul Krugman earned his B.A. summa cum laude in economics from Yale University in 1974 and his PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1977.

Those who can do. Those who can't teach, lecture, scribble, etc!

If economists know so much about economics, why are most of them employees, and not rich?

I prefer letting someone who made billions take the lead.

Not a tough choice at all for me, as I know a bit about worldly economics.

First, many economists have their own business.

Second, some people enjoy the world of academia, doing research, writing and publishing--within this framework, there would be not be a deep understanding of economics without people in academia doing research, publishing and writing. Do you think information about business and economics magically appeared in Trumps brain? Um, no, he most likely read about economics and business from people who publish. The information has to come from somewhere--it usually comes from academia.

Third, hate to break it to you, but most major businesses consult with PhDs on a variety of issues.

Hope this helps, dingus.

ps - yet, Trump was still wrong and Krugman was still right.

Krugman is always wrong, because he is a socialist asshole, who President Trump won't be wasting any of his, or our country's, time, by consulting with him.

Reduce the supply of low wage labor and demand will drive wages up.  It's Econ 101.

Why don't you go down to the border and show them how easy it will be.

It probably won't be easy, but eventually, people will find a way around the wall. People are innovative when they want something bad enough. I guess it depends how long it will take people to find a way "around" it. I don't know what other measures are in place other than a wall.

More border guards with orders: Shoot to kill, take no prisoners!

That's the kind of stuff that really works.

Shoot them, and they'll stop trying to come here.
