I grew up during the cold war with USSR.
The US Government had serious visa and immigration restriction with the USSR .
It was also restricted to communist backed nations behind the "iron curtain".
Shortly after WWII ended, Russia emerged as an existential threat to our way of life.
Now, we have ISIS and similar groups, willing to die to help destroy the west.
The nations many reside in, often refer to the USA as the "great Satan".
Some liberal minded , good hearted people, don't want to accept this harsh reality.
It sounds better to believe the Muslim bad guys are few in number.
If we just reach out and welcome them, they will love us.
Maybe, some will? But the hardcore Islamic zealot may see it as weakness and exploit it.
Far better to take prudent steps to minimize our risk.
