In celebration of Black History Month
« on: February 04, 2017, 12:00:05 PM »
In this thread I'm going to compile a comprehensive list of all the significant contributions to society that have been made by black men and women over the last 1000 years.

....just as soon as one of them does something that's worth a shit.   Stay tuned, I'm sure any day now these brilliant innovators will do something of note.

Hang in there, don't give up.  This is going to be a great thread......any time now.

Shit!

Martin Cooper invented the cell phone.

That competitor was Martin Cooper, who at the time was an executive with Motorola, one of AT&T's competitors. Cooper led a team that designed the first practical cell phone. It was called the Motorola DynaTAC, and it still wasn't a tiny device -- it was 9 inches (22.9 centimeters) long and weighed 2.5 pounds (1.1 kilograms).

It's ridiculous that we give them a entire month. Should be more like an afternoon.

John Standard did not invent the refrigerator. He registered his patent for an improved refrigerator design on June 14, 1891. John Standard was an African American inventor from Newark, N.J., responsible for the patent on an improved refrigerator cooling system. John Standard found a way to improve the existing design of refrigerators by developing a non-electrical and unpowered design.

Credit for the invention of the electric refrigerator should go to Fred Wolf and Nathaniel Wales. In 1913, refrigerators for home and domestic use were invented by Fred W. Wolf of Fort Wayne, Indiana with models consisting of a unit that was mounted on top of an ice box.[6] In 1914, engineer Nathaniel B. Wales of Detroit, Michigan, introduced an idea for a practical electric refrigeration unit, which later became the basis for the Kelvinator.

Kelvinator later merged with Nash and then with Hudson to become AMC.

William C. Durant, founder of General Motors and Chevrolet founded the Frigidaire Company  in 1918 to mass-produce refrigerators.

John Knight invented the traffic light.

Traffic jams were a problem even before the invention of the automobile. Horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians crowded the roads of London in the 1860s, according to the BBC. A British railway manager, John Peake Knight, suggested adapting a railroad method for controlling traffic.

Railroads used a semaphore system with small arms extending from a pole to indicate whether a train could pass or not. In Knight's adaptation, semaphores would signal "stop" and "go" during the day, and at night red and green lights would be used. Gas lamps would illuminate the sign at night. A police officer would be stationed next to the signals to operate them.

The world's first traffic signal was installed on Dec. 9, 1868, at the intersection of Bridge Street and Great George Street in the London

The fire extinguisher was invented by George William Manby in 1818. It was a simple device that used a copper cylinder and compressed air to push large amounts of water through the nozzle of the cylinder.

You've spent 30+ minutes now to prove that Hebrews did not, in fact, develop various innovations ... are there things?

Thank you for asking.  You're right, my time is very valuable.

I view two of those invention to be very important.  The Cell phone and the refrigerator.  I think it's important to give credit to the correct inventor for important inventions.  Would you take credit away from Thomas Edison for the light bulb or the Wright brothers for the airplane.  My posts weren't anti Hebrew they were pro inventor.  Just because it's African American History month does not mean we should change who gets credit for inventions.

I also wish Be There would have spent three minutes fact checking his post on google.  I understand this is Getbig and therefore facts don't matter, the earth is flat, and there is no gravity.  But, some of us live in the real world where the earth is round, gravity exists, and Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.
