Mike FRANCOIS 94 NOC
« on: February 16, 2017, 02:22:43 PM »
Mike looked good but did he deserve to beat Nasser? His arms looked patently small compared to just a year later (4th pic).

Nasser was aesthetic as hell, '94 was the last year before he upped the 'slin and went crazy with the mass.

Recently, his formal coach Aceto was praising him for his monstrous training intensity. Unfortunately there isn't much material about Mike on Youtube.

Third place, John Sherman. I think Juan Vasquez competed as well.

Despite how he may have ended up in later years, Nasser looked absolutely incredible at one time.

Where are the back pictures? That's why he beat him.

It's when he jumped up to 275-280 where he floundered. He lost his crispness and detail.

Nasser wins nearly every show until he turns around, He was close to best in world front, really good from the side, but amateur lost on a pro stage when he turned to the rear.

Much Like Strydom if there was no rear ;at spread and back double, they could have been close to a sandow

the 1994 night of champions. yes. great start to the day. bill clinton was elected president 2 year prior. oj simpson was chased while in the bronco. very exciting. the artist formerly known as prince changed his name. nasser was edged out by mike. nancy karrigan got beat up. dumb and dumber was in theaters

even when he beat Wheeler he looked a bit watery..he never got really dry/crisp for 90s standards.....great physique though just never reached full potential sadly.

That inner back thickness, a la Fux, is always impressive to see...

But what actually happened to him?  I seem to hazily recall reading a few different health reasons years ago, but the Alzheimers means I've never really been sure?..  A link to a definitive interview or article would be most appreciated.

He lost his crispness and detail when he went up to 264-268 (mid 90's) and then lost even more when he went up to 275-285 (late 90's).

Trying to locate a shot where he's 'crispy' reminded me of just how insanely competitive the Nationals were back then.  So many hi-quality physiques battling it out for that elusive Pro card...  I  mean, what a lineup it was in '93

It amazes me how the Caputos and Fletchers of this world never even reached that destination either (IIRC)

(Oh, and the search for the crispy shot proved fruitless thus far....)

I see - thanks for responding Mr Hero (or may I call you Local? :))  If I could just impose a little further and ask you/anyone reading this for clarification of the below:

1  Was that diagnosis officially announced by him then?

2  And surely that condition can be managed?  (In fact, come to think of it, doesn't John Meadows operate 'sans colon"?  Couldn't Mike have risked death to go under the knife have his colon removed for us b1tches?  Selfish b4stard...)

He had been sick for a while before retiring. He was actually sick at the '97 Olympia and was on medication that negatively affected his condition. He had complications that weren't normal for people with the disease and had to have a section of his bowel removed.
