Bryan had a strong following. The American Dragon got himself over before he ever stepped foot in a wwe ring and he got over on work rate alone. He developed a character and rode the under dog gimmick to the top.

DB had a chant that helped him get over with morons in the midwest because those type of fans DON'T CARE about Japan, ROH, "workrate" or know who Jon Cortez is
...however, as repulsive as those mouthbreathers are they are 99 percent of the fanbase
"internet fans" are BARELY one percent of the fanbase
that aside, this majority have shitty lives and like to get themselves over at wrestling shows because it makes them feel like they are part of the show
so, the "YES" chant is what go DB over with the idiot majority, not his outstanding talent
