Poor man's Zane: Steve DAVIS
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:38:33 AM »
Good build overall and he did make it onto the Olympia stage a few times.

Good interview with Ric Drasin

Had a great physique. If I remember correctly at his height he owned numerous gyms. A guy who trained with him wrote he appeared to train light until he trained with him.  He used 6 sets per exercise and by the 6th set that light weight on set one felt like an elephant. Short rests between sets.

Wow, haven't heard that name in a while. If you close your eye's and listen to his voice in this interview he sounds and speaks like Nick Saben. Great speaking voice.

Great guy and solid physique but didn't bring you out of your chair to whoop and holler as quickly as a Frank Zane would.

I trained with Steve a number of times when he was getting ready for the 1981 Mr. Olympia. That is how he trained at the time. 6 sets same weight.

Proof positive you don't need to train heavy to stimulate muscle growth. Awesome.

;) quite a transformation from 285 lbs.

That before pic doesn't look like a 285 lb body even though it has always been attributed that way in print and is widely accepted. Schwarzenegger was a little taller and even at his biggest and fattest off-season condition never looked 25-35 lbs lighter than Davis in that pic.
