Fearing deportation, California's 'Dreamers' are skipping out on financial aid

http://www.latimes.com/nation/sns-tns-bc-cmp-calif-dreamers-20170222-story.html

As widespread fears of deportation sweep California, the number of undocumented immigrant students in California applying for college financial aid has dropped more than 40 percent, new data shows.

"We know the fear is real, and we see it in the numbers," said state Assemblyman Jose Medina, a Riverside Democrat, who heads the Assembly's higher education committee, on Wednesday.

With the state's financial aid deadline approaching, some politicians and advocates now worry that the decision to skip out on tuition aid will send many of the state's young, educated immigrants back into the shadows, unable to attend college or to launch careers.

Under the California Dream Act, undocumented students brought to the U.S. as children commonly known as "Dreamers" are eligible for in-state tuition and certain forms of financial aid while they are enrolled in state colleges and universities. But with a new federal administration sharply clamping down on illegal immigration in its first month, thousands of students have become reluctant to share personal information with the government, fearing deportation, according to educators and state political leaders.

I love that they have the balls to call illegal aliens "Dreamers".

How about the "Affordable Care Act".  Who could possibly be against affordable care?

Or the "Patriot Act".  If you don't support this then you don't love your country.

Citizens need to find a way to compel the government to stop putting cute, misleading names on legislation.  It's manipulative trickery.  Orwellian in the truest sense of the word.

Holy smokes.  She and Maxine Waters sound like they should be in a nursing home.

California demands details of Trump administration immigration arrests

California legislative leaders on Monday demanded detailed information from the Trump administration on immigration arrests and raids in the most populous U.S. state, amid growing concern that agents are targeting non-criminals for deportation.

Citing reports that agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, had gone to churches, schools and courthouses to find and arrest illegal immigrants, the legislature used the federal Freedom of Information Act to request all records of enforcement actions taken or planned since Republican Donald Trump was sworn in as president on Jan. 20.

"Despite saying he’d only target dangerous criminals, President Trump’s executive orders target practically every undocumented person in California," said Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, who signed the request along with Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I have been saying this since the Clinton administration:  We are living in a world eerily similar to Animal Farm.

Rules don't apply to a select class of Socialist Rulers who are implementing Cultural Marxism (Obama, Clinton, Podesta, etc..

Worse yet, they change the definitions of well established words (e.g. gender).  These changes are used so that one will not be able to criticize the ridiculous nature of someone's actions/identity, because then the critic will be labeled as not politically correct/sexist/intolerant/etc.

It has been happening for quite some time, and has eroded the rule of law (see states that do not follow the Federal laws on marijuana).

LOL!

The dems have lost me in recent years on most elections and issues.
I wish we had a party, that stood for working class rights and values.

I try to be even handed and independent , but in the last 2 elections...ooh boy.

Let's just say for the 2012,14, 16 elections, the only republican I didn't vote for
was Trump*> and if had a better temperament , I'd have voted for him because of the issues.
