Kamaole beach, Maui is one of my favorites.

Endless list of Hawaiian beaches, hard to choose. Hideaways on Kauai was probably my favorite.

OC beaches in CA (Huntington, Newport, etc.) are cool as hell. Not necessarily tropical or postcard pretty, just clean, good people, and great surfy atmosphere. Way less crowded than the more touristy LA beaches, although Manhatten and Hermosa are nice.

That looks beautiful! Hawaii might be the winner on this list after looking at some pictures

I'm from Sarasota, Fl can't go wrong with Siesta key beach, Ann Maria beach, Coquina beach or Bradenton beach. Other good beaches in the state are Destin, Fort Whalton beach and Clearwater beach. All those beaches have turquoise colored water and white, soft sand. Being a Floridian I wouldn't recommend key west if you're looking for a great beach, it's great for snorkeling and fishing and good night life. Isla Morada is nice too.

West coast of FL has the best beaches in FL.

yes, the water seems calmer than the east Atlantic water.....clearwater is nice and siesta beach is fucking awesome....water could still be up your chest 200 yards away from the beach

Fort Lauderdale is about 30 minutes north of Miami. The beach is similar to the beach in South Beach but not as crowded. Captiva and Sanibel beach in Fort Myers are also very nice beaches.

Sanibel looks nice.

How do you rank all these beaches personally? (Including Siesta Key, if you've been)

Damn near anywhere in San Diego.

Pacific Beach (PB) is sorta like Venice Beach or Santa Monica or Huntington Beach. Just down south of PB is Mission Beach (Mission or MB) which is more family-oriented and has better parking.

Further south is Ocean Beach (OB) is more hippy-ish and has the best pier in SoCal... Goes wayyyyyy out in the ocean, well past where the waves break, & is shapped like a "T". Couple nice sushi places by the pier as well.

Coronado probably has the "prettiest" beach. The sand isnwhite and fluffy and it's a long walk in sand from the parking lot/boardwalk to get to the Ocean. It's a nicer family orientated version of Mission Beach. We used to gonout to Coronado at low tide wearing all black (blk board shorts &blk teeshirt, or blk wetsuit) wade out till youre about thigh deep in water, drop down and dig your arms about elbow or even shoulder deep and feel for clams. Those things are about the size of a grapefruit. Usually we'd get about two 5gal buckets full (about 80lbs) and cook'em on the bbq the next day. Gotta be carefull since it's considering poaching.

Up north of PB there's also La Jolla ("la hoya") Shores, which is a nicer, wayy more family-oriented version of Mission Beach... & south of la jolla shores, you've got La Jolla Cove which is nice and has a huge amount of seals and is nice for snorkeling so long as you steer clear of seals since the water is saturated with seal shit & piss.

North of La Jolla you get Blacks Beach which has great waves, but it takes a hike to get into and out of the area.. It's also a nude beach, but mostly filled with gay guys and old women playing volleyball.

Few mins north of Blacks is Torrey Pines. Torrey has enormous cliffs along the beach that go maybe 100-150yards high. Cliffs that go straight up like the walls of the grand canyon. You can walk about halfway down towards Blacks and climb up the cliffs and sit and look wayyyyy out over the ocean and watch whales in the distance and dolphins/seals body surfing the waves. Torrey is much more secluded than the others.

... In short, I'd say my top 3 are; #1Torrey Pines, #2 Pacific Beach, & #3 Coronado. If i just wanna go chill and not wear board shorts or get dirty, I'd choose the Ocean Beach Pier.

I left out the beaches in LA and Orange County, but in LA inliked Topanga, & in OC i like the "Wedge" in Newport, which has huge shorebreak for bodyboarding or bodysurfing.

Great post. Thanks for the info. It's nice to check out parts of the west coast too after researching a lot of Florida (which is still very nice) but the west and southeast beaches seem to have very different vibes to them.

Shame they consider that poaching - was intrigued when reading initially

Taking only the beach in condsideration and not the nightlife, this would be my ranking:
1. Siesta key beach
2. Clear water beach
3. Destin
4.Anna Maria Beach
5. Coquina Beach
6. South Beach
7. Fort Lauderdale
8. Sanibel
9. Captiva
10. Fort Walton beach

I've been to all these beaches personally, I'm a Florida native. I've been to other beaches in the state too but these are the ones that stood out the most.

Ugly beaches ( because of dark water, coarse sand and just plain ugly)
1. Daytona beach
2. Anything in Key west( there are other keys, I'm referring to only key west)
3. New Smyrna Beach.

Lived in SD for 10 years.  I prefer Coronado... much more quiet and nicer than the rest, even during peak times.  For bikini clad women, gotta go with Pacific Beach.  LaJolla shops and restaurants on Prospect are nice too, but expensive.  I met Raquel Welch there in 2005, she was coming out of a restaurant.

No issues if you choose to add your list on that topic to this thread to add some fine things to look at

After some of these posts, began researching all of the places listed.

Is it true that between Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Hollywood Florida, that Hollywood is the worst?

Marco Island, FL has a nice long, white sand beach.  The sunsets in that area are just breathtaking.  Tons of cool shells on the beach, if you're into that kind of thing.

Sounds very nice from what's been written as well as the pictures taken.

Is there a big difference between the Gulf of Mexico beaches and the Atlantic side beaches?

The Gulf side the water is usually very flat, no waves from my experience. Also the sand is finer.
