1969 Arnold Schwarzenegger & Leroy Colbert Dinner Conversation
« on: February 25, 2017, 05:49:17 PM »
This is a rare COMPLETE audio recording of a dinner party at Leroy Colbert's house back in 1969 in New Jersey. The guests were his wife Jackie Colbert, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu, and Artie Zeller. This was before Arnold achieved Legendary status in Bodybuilding. This is very interesting to be a fly on the wall over 47 years later. Enjoy!

Way before Arnold got big in bodybuilding? Really? How many Mr. Universes had he won? Literally one year away from the triple crown win, hardly way before.

Pretty cool find, though hard to hear Arnold much aside from his unmistakable laughing.

Thanks. Actually, Leroy gave me this tape he made of the dinner and I made it into a video to share to the world. Knowing Leroy, the tape recorder was right next to him. That is why he is the loudest.

Everything is finally paid off. I have to transfer his ashes in the paperwork so he can be laid to rest in California. Leroy was cremated in Nevada. I hope to have everything finalized in April at the latest. Thanks for asking

That's good to hear.  You did a lot for Leroy and people really appreciate that in this industry.  In terms of people I respect in this industry I could have counted on one hand.....now I have to revise that with one finger on the other hand

Does Artie Zeller tell any jokes on the tape?  I think he to,d me once that he always memorized three jokes for any party.

Arnold says his max bench was 465 and also says he doesn't lift maximum weights.  Says he loses the "feel" of the exercise when he goes too heavy.

Arnold stopped lifting over 405 lbs on bech press in 72' (age 25)  he also stopped squatting more than 4 plates (405 lbs) at that same age thats way too young, considering his best years were 73 and 74,  at that point he was doing all the sets and reps he calims in his books/articles but poundages were relatevilly light for a big guy and a pro Bodybuilder ......

Joe Weider always sold the idea that he was lifting monstrous weights in the photo shoots (smart marketing/business move)

Goes to show you that young Arnold was smart guy from the start , think about it;  when bodybuilding as a sport " was still in diapers ....Arnold already knew lifting "heavy ass weights" wasn't really necessary and  respected the power of  juice .
