I actually applaud Dr. Peterson for his openness. It seems like he has no problem referring to people by pronouns, as he wants to be sensitive to other peoples needs and that is his right. But he doesn't want to be forced to do it and wants the option to choose.

What in the hell is going on in the Netherlands currently?

Short version: The Dutch prevented Turkish minister from addressing a gathering of Turks in Rotterdam. Turkey whined and called them fascists, the Dutch sent riot police to the gathering.

Erdogan tries to rally Turks in Europe to vote for him in an upcoming "referendum" (after last year's staged "coup") so he can gain even more powers become a full islamist dictator. The Netherlands thought that these Turkish rallies can contribute to tension in Dutch society and they do not respect rules related to public gatherings and thus they did not allow Turkish Foreign minister Cavusoglu's plane to land in the country.

For that, Erdogan called the Dutch "Nazi remnants" and "fascists". More specifically he said: "Listen Netherlands, you'll jump once, you'll jump twice, but my people will thwart your game. You can cancel our foreign minister's flight as much as you want, but let's see how your flights will come to Turkey now. They don't know diplomacy or politics. They are Nazi remnants. They are fascists"

Cavusoglou said: "If my going will increase tensions, let it be. What damage will my going have on them? I am a foreign minister and I can go wherever I want."

Another Turkish minister, the Family Affairs Minister drove to the Netherlands from Germany to address the rally but she was blocked by Dutch police from entering the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam and was escorted out of the country. Dutch riot police were sent to break up a pro-Erdogan protest in Rotterdam. Turkey in retaliation sealed off the Dutch embassy in Ankara. Dutch getbiggers might know more details about these events.

Two Dutch broadcasters said the minister, Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, was detained by Dutch authorities to prevent her addressing the crowd. RTL said Kaya was declared an "undesirable alien" and would be escorted to Germany.

The decision to detain the minister came as roughly 2,000 pro-Erdogan protesters were gathered outside the consulate in Rotterdam. The news of plans to return her to Germany drew boos and whistling through the crowd as police in riot gear and on horseback warned that they would use force to disperse protesters.
