Yes - let's hear from the Dutch on this topic.
Perhaps they will clarify for us.
Interesting to know more.
I would suggest reading the collected works of Loe de Jong on that topic, particularly his 14-book treatise "Kingdom of The Netherlands in the Second World War", which is the most complete and most respected overview of the war and our role in it.
It is always interesting to debate the war with Americans. Despite being such an aggressive nation, it is hard for Americans to understand that war has two sides. Protected mostly by geography rather than any brilliant strategy, the US isn't used to feeling any effects of war. Americans flipped their shit when the twin towers went down. There are many Dutch people living today that were alive when the Germans bombed Rotterdam without any warning. They didn't just bomb a measly two towers, almost the entirety of Rotterdam was devastated. Imagine war starting with the second largest US city (LA) being almost entirely flattened. Then think hard about how tough Americans would be when faced by an enemy that simply did not care about killing millions, and had the overwhelming power to do it.
