Well - I love my wife and kids.  Been married for 20+ years.    The simple thing is making sure everyone, on both sides, knows when you are going out.  If I have an event, I put it on the calender (computer based) so we all know what is coming up.  Same with her, and same with events we all need to go to (birthdays, dinners, etc).  Very simple and communication is key.

As I go to a lot of events for photography, and various dinners for business, you need to know.

As for the kids, two of them, and they are awesome.  And I love being a dad.   To each his own.

I have also been married for over 20 years and have kids. I have never had a problem with going and doing things with the guys. My wife understands that a man needs to unwind and get away once in awhile. Now .....if you have friends that are making it a point to tell you that their wife said no or let me ask her. There is a chance maybe that friend of yours is using that as a way out from hanging with you. This happened in our group with one of our friends, we found out when one of us talked to his wife at the grocery store and she claimed he never asked her about going to one of our planned outings that he said he was not allowed to go to. A good marriage is a compromising one, after 20 plus years it still takes communication. It's a must. I never regret getting married and having children. I could not imagine being single and in a quite house.
