Tom PLATZ 1981
« on: April 17, 2017, 11:46:08 PM »
Upper body was vastly improved, plus the bicep tear he suffered shortly afterward ended his chances going forward. Most agree this was his best showing.

And only 0.0001% of that percentage cares about your opinion.

Just under 5'7" and 218 pounds onstage that year (235 offseason). The best he ever was and would ever be.

the first gym I joined back in summer 86 had this photo by the squat rack.

up to that point I had never seen something so freaky in my life leg wise nor since. Guys yes have had even bigger legs but not to this day as freaky as platz with the size density and separation

Dude looked phenomenal in 81. It seemed everyone was so much better in 81 than 80. I don't think Mentzer, Zane or Coe would've won had they competed. Platz should've won with Danny 2. Platz always seemed like a weird fucking guy. Heven was on course to be even better in 82 but his biceps tear ruined him. He should've skipped 82 O and got his bicep fixed right away. Instead he put of the surgery and his arm never looked the same again. He had one more really good Mr.O appearance in 86 or 87 but never again came close to his 81 shape.

Danny also looks phenomenal, could win then as well. He had proportions definitely better than Tom. But .. is about tastes here. The eternal story. More mass or better proportions ?

Platz & Padilla both very good each has strong case for the win.
Probably only by being there at the show could they be judged
Fairly & accurately.

Saying that from the pics it appears the Judges didn't judge the
Fairly & accurately looking at their placings.
Or maybe they did as they were there.

From the pics I fail to see how Franco & Dickerson got 1st & 2nd.
And Danny 5th.

As for your assumption.. Hmmm, Question - where did Platz place in relation to Danny.

When you answer that ..... It maybe you who = Moron.

As regardless of what we think of who should of placed where
The results for that Mr Olympia are what they are.

Danny was absolutely flawless. That was as good as a physique can get. But for the Mr. O title I would have given it to Platz because of the "wow" factor. Danny was so short and looked overwhelmed standing next to Platz. Platz not only was bigger for this show but he had a far more polished look than he ever had before. He looked like he put himself through hell that year and emerge stepping out of the flames a different person.

I know I mentioned it before, but after that show I became so disillusioned with bbing. I don't think Arnold should have won the year before but he was close enough. The travesty that was '81 and imagining what Padilla and Platz put themselves through that year to come at their all time best convinced me that sport was corrupt and based on politics and I stopped following it until around the early 2000s when I saw that Coleman vid "Unbelievable" and realize how much has changed. Missed the whole Hany, Yates and most of Coleman's era

Danny had a few raw deals his way...maybe Weider just didn't like him
the story he told about him getting 300(perfect score) and Robbie getting 298 and the multiple posedowns before they announced Robbie as the winner tops pretty much anything I have heard about corrupt judging.
